YouTube and Netflix reduce their quality so as not to congest the network too much

Only last night did we write to you about the request from the European Commissioner Thierry breton to companies like Netflix e YouTube companies that produce a huge flow of Internet data and thus significantly clogging European lines, to lower the video quality of their products at least during peak hours.

In response, Netflix immediately accepted the request and opted for a reduction of the bitrate of about 25% for a whole monthwhile still ensuring good video quality. YouTube also wasn't idle and decided to suspend all high-definition streams lowering the quality to Standard for everyone. It was to announce it Google the company that owns the video streaming service.

The reason for these requests, as can be easily understood, is due to the sudden increase in Internet traffic due to the restrictions imposed for the Coronavirus epidemic. The number of people who are forced to stay at home has increased dramatically, as has smart working, online lessons or those who prefer to shop online. All of these parameters caused the entire digital network to overload making overall stability and overall speed much lower than normal. All of this can be a real problem as hospitals or public buildings much more important than a video streaming site could find themselves at any moment with serious network problems, further aggravating a situation that is already very problematic in itself.
