After two films that saw him play the character, Tom Cruise will no longer be Jack Reacher. According to its creator Lee Child the thing is not bad at all, far from it. In fact, during an interview published by The Sunday Times, Child spoke about the future of the character (who had two cinematic incarnations, one in 2012 and the high one in 2016) and revealed that from his point of view Tom Cruise is no longer suited to that type of character and role, given its age:
Tom Cruise was reluctant to leave the role. He had economic interests, he wanted to discuss them to avoid it. I might sound extremely patronizing, but I think it's good for him because he's too old for these roles. He's 57, he has to move on, make the transition to another kind of role. He could have a career spanning another 20 years. She is talented and a great person, really caring and funny
Tom Cruise, at almost sixty, is still continuing to be the protagonist of various action films, as well as never using stunts during the laughs of his films (even in the riskiest scenes).
