Won't Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon be HBO's only spin-off?

Won't Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon be HBO's only spin-off?

HBO has decided to continue investing in Game of Thrones. In fact, in addition to the spin-offs already announced, three new projects are in the pipeline that would serve to expand the adaptation of the series of fantasy novels by George RR Martin. The series, and especially its ending, had not convinced fans, even if Games of Thrones is still a very strong brand today, and it is natural that HBO has chosen to continue exploring his universe.

One of the new projects will have as a working title 10.000 Ships. The story of the princess will follow Nymeria, ancestor of the Martell house and founder of the kingdom of Dorne. The series will be set a millennium before the events of Game of Thrones, leading to an exploration of much older myths than the Westeros timeline. Another project is set instead in Flea Bottom, the dark and labyrinthine slum neighborhood of King's Landing that was featured in the first four seasons of the series. The latest project was instead developed by Bruno Heller with the working title 9 Voyages. The series will follow Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake and the head of the House of Velaryon. Recall that Lord Corlys Velaryon will also appear in House of the Dragon, the first Game of Thrones spin-off to which HBO gave the official green light. Filming the series they will start next month, with Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Paddy Considine and Matt Smith as protagonists. The premiere is scheduled for 2022.

It is worth bearing in mind that not all of these projects may eventually be realized. HBO had in fact recorded a pilot episode for a prequel series of Age of Heroes with Naomi Watts before deciding not to go ahead with its realization. However, the volume of Game of Thrones content that is being worked on at HBO reflects the intention to continue to focus heavily on this franchise.
