A recent report from The Information shed light on the possibility of seeing ads within WhatsApp. In fact, it seems that Facebook has not given up on plans to include them, but rather is thinking of a way to do so already in the course of this year. Although there is still no official confirmation, a company spokesperson told Engadget of this interest, stating that the announcements on the status screen remain a long-term opportunity for WhatsApp.
As regards the functioning of advertisements, The Information said the idea would be to use phone numbers to link WhatsApp and Facebook accounts, using the latter to give users targeted ads based on their needs. Some executives said they were against this initiative, as they believe it would lead many users to leave. At the moment there is not much other information about it, so we will have to wait for further details on the matter, as well as official confirmations from Facebook.
The two applications are among the most used in this quarantine period, with data from last month indicating that there has been an increase of more than 50% in their use.
