What if League of Legends was an anime?

What if League of Legends was an anime?

Nowadays, league of legends, the MOBA of Riot Games, is certainly one of the most popular games on the globe; it is not uncommon for even those who do not play it to know the various characters and elements. One wonders why all this. In fact, anyone who is passionate about PC Gaming knows Katarina's "two great talents", but no one has the slightest idea who Slardar from DOTA 2 is (excluding players). The secret of this success is to be found precisely within the character design of LoL, since it is the characters who make the game known and not vice versa., having been conceived as the characters "to the Japanese" as they say, or with that typical oriental characterization of the characters that makes them seem almost like the protagonists of an anime, even if their interactions are reduced to a minimum like in a MOBA. So let's go to reveal how this characterization has helped League of Legends and above all: Do the Champions belong more to the animation or videogame universe? Let's find out together!

    A relationship without words

Anyone who plays it knows. In League of Legends, Champions have a very limited list of voice interactions they repeat throughout the game and only in some cases do they have some special ones. So one wonders: "Why are these characters able to bond so much with the player?". Good question. The solution is hidden in two elements of the character: appearance and voice. Let's analyze this last element. The sentences spoken by the characters, with their particular tone, are well studied; they are concepts that embody the very essence of the Champion, with a tone that reflects their mood. Thanks to these two characteristics, it is possible to understand the mood of the character and his character. Katarina's “Violence solves everything”, pronounced in that mocking tone of hers, gives the nature of a killer-warrior who feels above everyone else; on the contrary, Lux's “We are superior in tactics” gives the idea of a young but determined wizard, who doesn't want to boast of her superiority, but thinks of her teammates and team. All these characteristics define the communication of the characters; this feature is taken from the animation sagas: anyone who listens to Goku's voice will perceive it as a friendly voice, while Freeza's tone immediately makes us understand that he is an evil being.

    Appearance matters

Who remembers the first trailers of the new Champions? Almost everyone I think. For the uninitiated, the first trailers were not simple cinematics as in the case of Ekko, but real 3D anime short films. Many users approached the game by seeing their own these videos, which presented the characters, even if without words, with their own style and charisma, fascinating. From Rengar's cruelty to Leona's altruism, each of them communicates a feeling, an emotion of its own, as also mentioned in the previous paragraph. Where is the genius of Riot Games in these choices? In let us see that environment that we know very well at play but from a different perspective; noticing, in the end nothing different happens in all the videos from what we ourselves do in the Summoner's Rift. An allied team, an enemy team, a battleground with certain hiding places, 4 skills. Below you will find the most beautiful short film made by Riot Games in my opinion, “A New Dawn”!

    A conductive plot?

After these premises, let's get to our point: Could League of Legends be an anime? The answer is neither yes nor no. The characters are perfect: charismatic, psychologically well defined, attractive; even the environments are there, just count the cities of the world of Runeterra to realize that the environments are not lacking. However, the problem remains one, and it is the element that penalizes this possibility: the vastness of stories, characters and events. The characters are too many, the stories behind them are too many: it would be possible a representation that talks about the story of Noxus and the rise to power of Swain (of which there is an amateur comic in Korean), as well as the war between the aforementioned city and Demacia would be a nice starting point; Unfortunately, however, these are barely 5-7% of the Champions and, in the case of characters like Ahri, Ezreal or Nautilus, who have completely lonely and poorly defined stories, it is impossible to insert them into a similar context.

What if League of Legends was an anime?

Drawing conclusions, League of Legends is a video game that definitely has an oriental animation setting, with perfectly curated and defined characters and stories., but unfortunately, as we well know, the too crippled: the stories are too divided between them, far away, with different settings, different relationships and an end in themselves. The present "sub-stories", if we want to define them, are approximately 20, completely separate from each other, even if all beautiful. Another problem remains there "Lore" and the possibilities of interpretation that are left to the player, since many elements have not been voluntarily defined. We hope that the decision made by our Asian comrades will also be welcomed by our dear Riot, who is very much in contact with the game community. Unfortunately, the idea of an anime is quite unlikely, but who knows that in the future, given the success that videogame-themed cinematography is experiencing lately, something cannot suddenly come out!
