Mining the minerals won't be very difficult, as you will initially find the hammer in your inventory. Not really the most suitable tool, but it will do just fine for starters.

The workbench

The tools degrade as you use them, the more they wear out and the less effective they will be. When they are completely worn, they will become unusable, but they will never break, so they can always be repaired.

To repair the tools you will first need to create a workbench, and since it will be the place you will use the most, you will want to build one as soon as possible. You will need ten pieces of wood to create a workbench, which is a very common and readily available material especially in the early stages of the game.

Since tools can only be repaired on a workbench, it would be preferable to place one in all buildings you establish. This also serves to avoid making unnecessary crossings in the map, and, since workbenches are simple and cheap to set up, there is no reason not to do it in any building.

Copper in Valheim

In Valheim, copper is a natural resource, which can be found ready for mining in the Black Forest. Especially, pure copper is a fundamental component for the creation of bronze. Before being able to use it in processing, however, this mineral needs to be melted.

The pond

Tin can also be mined in the Forest Black, using the same tools you used to mine the copper. Tin can be used naturally in the bronze manufacturing process, as it does not need to be refined.

The foundry in Valheim

As we said, copper, to be used, must be transformed into pure copper, and this will happen in the foundry. It will not be possible to have one at least until you have faced the first boss of the game, Eikthyr the Stag. Beating it will give you access to the burial chambers in the Black Forest, where you can find some Surtling Core. By combining five pieces of Surtling Core with 20 stones, using a workbench, you can create a foundry. Using coal as a heat source, you can melt the mined copper into pure copper rods. These copper bars are used in three recipes: the copper knife, la forge and bronze.

The bronze

By combining two copper bars with a piece of tin in the forge you will get the bronze. When you have the bronze available, you can create some items that will be of great help to you.
