Trackmania - Review, the return of a modern classic

The brand of Trackmania is considered the arcade time attack par excellence, with Swim that product after product has been able to create a real host of proselytes thanks to the quality and variety offered each time. The French firm, supported by Ubisoft, over time has been able to play, experiment, invent and reinvent itself, without ever losing sight of the community and its requests. After the excellent Trackmania Turbo (which we particularly appreciated, but struggled to find the number of players on consoles that the previous PC versions had accustomed us to), we have come to a new release.

Trackmania, without any denomination, it is almost like the rebirth from the ashes (never definitively extinguished) of Trackmania Nations: in fact, the game is set up in the same way, with the Stadium as the only available category, a couple of handfuls of training tracks, and clearly the countryside tracks divided by difficulty. However, we are in 2020, and therefore Nadeo was happily forced to offer sumptuous features dedicated to online gaming. The substantial difference compared to its historical ancestor, however, lies in its nature: to play it will in fact require a subscription, while the good old Nations used the Free to Play formula. Could it be a rash move? Or a test of strength that will bear fruit? Time will tell.

Jumps in the sky whit diamonds

This new Trackmania formula doesn't translate into simple remake, because the differences present (beyond the basic concept) they are macroscopic, both in terms of modalities, and on proposed parts / obstacles, and on all altered statuses and so on. But let's take a step back. As in all time attacks, your aim will be to get the best possible time on a track, using only your skills. Depending on your time, you will be awarded a medal (bronze, silver, gold, Trackmaster), and clearly your best records will be included in the various leaderboard of the tracks (world, national and regional). In the mode Countryside you will face the various tracks proposed without time limits (always divided by category of difficulty), while online you can give vent to all your competitive spirit by playing the tracks in rotation against other users from all over the world, but with the 5 minute limit to make your best time.

But what are the innovations, if there is nothing new so far? Let's say that already altered status and the different ones types of terrain alone open millions of possibilities, not only for those who run, but also for those who love to dedicate themselves to creation of paths (with one of the most complete editors ever, calculating only the Stadium). For example we find in addition to asphalt, also rubbery and deformed asphalt, grass, red earth and the hated ice (sometimes it will seem to be athletes on sleds ed.), And very often in the slopes created by Nadeo you will find yourself alternating them several times within a single track. Some subtleties also concern the wheels, which remain dirty or frozen even for a few hundredths of a second after completing a stretch of road of that type (and with direct effects also on grip).

Trackmania - Review, the return of a modern classic- status real ones are instead inflicted by activations on the ground or by checkpoints: there is slow motion that will send everything in slow motion, the classics turbo e super turbo, the boost upwards o downward that will make the car float like a spaceship, whatever prevents you from turning, what turns off the engine, or the modifier "Fragile”Which will make your car look like crystal, and which will become a sieve due to impacts or violent landings… in short, there really is something for everyone. Yes, don't worry, there is also the status "Reset”Which brings everything back to normal. Not all of them are new, but the additions are so absurd and dynamic that even the most seasoned players will have to deal with them. The level of challenge is therefore quite high, with the mechanics that are - as usual - easy to understand, but extremely complicated to master. There patience continues to be a focal point, with failures and restart that will keep you glued to the same track for an unquantifiable time.

Welcome to the club

The choice to create feature Online, like that of Club, is absolutely consistent with the current medium: we are used to seeing games take advantage of seasonal passes day after day to entice users, but also to guarantee technical support for the various titles. The packages that Ubisoft has proposed with this new creation are decidedly full-bodied, and show that Trackmania does not want to be left to itself. We are talking about a title that needs maintenance, bug fixes, moderators and so on to be maintained at very high standards, and all this with a development team that will continue to work hard. Unthinkable to believe that it could happen without a subscription, especially today.

Trackmania - Review, the return of a modern classicLike Nations, this new Trackmania puts you in competition players from all over the world, also appearing forcefully in the world of eSports and with gods tournaments to which it will be possible to participate online. Plus the game has a deep-rooted fan base, and an enviable community, non-carcinogenic and among the sportiest on the market. We are talking about a title where inevitably we are all equal, and where only the strongest wins, but above all where your result depends only on yourself: it is therefore easy to come across players who help others, who do the compliments to each other, to ask for advice, and to create the aforementioned Club. Of course there are also exceptions, but they are of a very small number compared to the totality. It's still sharing of personal tracks, slopes of the day limited time to battle, and many other content that will arrive over time and that they will remain with the player even when your ticket expires.
