Tim Willits leaves id Software, announcing the move to Saber Interactive

Tim Willits announced via his Twitter account the switch to Saber Interactive as Chief Creative Officer. For 24 years he held various roles within Id Software, including Studio Director and Level Designer, collaborating on the creation of many games including Quake, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, Rage and Doom. The developer, during an interview with Fortune, described the change of study as a divorce, underlining however how much it is linked to Bethesda in a positive way.

After 24 years with a studio it's really hard to leave. It is almost like a wedding. But I saw how the Saber team was growing and expanding, gathering other teams and studios. It was a good time to change.

Saber Interactive it currently has nearly 500 employees, spread over 5 studios in St. Petersburg, Minsk, Madrid, Sundsvalle and Maplewood (New Jersey). It is therefore not a question of the size of the studio itself but of the agility and speed with which it is possible to work on an idea and change it.

The agility of small teams and the opportunity to get something done quickly shouldn't be overestimated. I'm not saying anything bad about Bethesda - I love them - but the smaller groups are more exciting and fun. When someone has a good idea, we jump on it. If it doesn't work, we quickly change it. At my age you have to work with people you like. You have to work on fun stuff.

Saber Interactive has developed titles such as TimeShift and World War Z and is currently working on the transposition of The Witcher 3 to the Nintendo Switch. We can only wish good luck to Willits and look forward to his next works!

I am excited to announce that on August 1st I became the Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive. I will be leading the creative vision of our five studios around the world. pic.twitter.com/rsJ1OsgHkX
