The Walking Dead: A New Frontier - Episode 1 - Review

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier - Episode 1 - Review

The Walking Dead, di Telltale Games, makes its return with the release of this long-awaited third season game inspired by the famous graphic novel by Robert Kirkman. The series in fact, after the end of the second season, had continued yes, but with the publication of one spin off focusing on the character of Michonne rather than with its direct sequel, which had left a fairly open ending and which we were quite curious to see how it developed. Although the latter are not directly related, you can still find them included in the purchase of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Season Pass.

With the release of this third chapter, finally we might know how the various choices made in the previous chapter have developed and how these have influenced the story of Clementine. Unfortunately we should be patient a little longer; because before reconstructing what happened we will get to know Javier “Javi” Garcia, new protagonist of this season. Indeed, despite this new chapter being set a few years after the events left unresolved, we would be transported back to the day it all began for relive the trauma of the initial spread of the epidemic from a completely new point of view. In this particular juncture we will impersonate a son struggling with various family problems due to the recent death of his father (which of course will prove to be decidedly inappropriate given the times) with all the traumas that may derive from it. In spite of everything, however, back to the present we can see the guy who four years after the outbreak of the epidemic he managed to keep most of his family alive. During the trip we will in fact have the pleasure of review by our side Mariana and Gabe, our grandchildren together with the stepmother Kate fortunately survived the disastrous events. The blood ties that we will carry with us will be our strength as well as our weakness.

Of course, after a series of circumstances that we will not go into further, we will meet a Clementine a little more mature than the one we remembered and completely marked by events that we will have the opportunity to deepen through various hilarious flashbacks of these years of emptiness.

This third season is different from the previous ones we have been used to During the years. Starting from the name, completely renewed, up to the graphic engine used that it shows a completely new graphic design for this title. Shadows and lights are managed much better, but without absolutely modifying the cartoonish trait typical of this series. They follow new graphics for reaction keys and dialogues which are absolutely updated in this latest work, thus adapting to similar titles previously released by Telltale Games. As for the sound, it remains the sampling of environmental and non-environmental sounds is very good that create that typical atmosphere to which we have always been used and which has always involved us. Not to mention the dubbing that best characterizes the characters present in the game, but which unfortunately is penalized by a slight lack of synchronization with regard to speech. In return the game system remains the same as always, without any particular innovation from this point of view: Never change a winning team.

As always the plot implications will never be completely discounted and make us travel in the balance between moments of pure adrenaline, up to more carefree and light moments that will then culminate in really heavy situations, where making important decisions in such a short time will give us a level of involvement that leaves us with a sense of perennial inadequacy whatever our final choice was. In short, we absolutely recommend that you try The Walking Dead: A New Frontier as this has already turned out to be the worthy predecessor of previous masterpieces who have already brought the study of Telltale Games in the past. A whole new story shown in the most classic of ways that we're sure will leave you with something in the end. Soon the second part of this chapter divided into two episodes.

Modus Operandi: the review you just read was written based on the version PlayStation 4 of the game, after completing Episode 1 in its entirety.
