The Last of Us Part 2: Here's why its 10 is more than fair

I'm not used to writing "belly" articles: perhaps I believe that objectivity, although difficult to achieve in some pieces, is the real protagonist of reviews, previews and so on. but yet The Last of Us Part 2 it is 10 because it manages to touch some decidedly not very objective strings, but so common that at the same time it is difficult to define them as niche. So let's try this experiment: I have already spoken to you in my review, as objectively as possible, of The Last of Us Part 2, and like me many other colleagues have assigned a grade of 10 to this title. Of course, the network immediately exploded, screaming nonsense about Sony paying reviewers or about N who decided to adapt the title to LGBT requests (I'm not making this up, this information is part of a tweet I found online).

One of the best games ever

The Last of Us Part 2 undoubtedly deserved this epithet as, albeit with small problems, it is in effect something unique. Not as unique as it was Death Stranding and its gameplay, much less unique as was the complexity of Red Dead Redemption 2 (two other games that we assigned a 10). Instead, it is unique for its violence, its way of telling things. It was not easy for me to finish the game, every step was a punch in the stomach, and every second that passed generated anxiety in me because of his wanting to be naked and raw: in The Last of Us anything can happen, we already have it learned in the first chapter, but in this second it becomes even more true. The fear of seeing some hard sentimental blow coming to my face from the plot was something that scared me throughout the experience, and never before has such a thing happened to me.

I even thought that once I knew the plot, the experience would lighten: for this reason I tried the game in more difficult modes, but the exact opposite happened. The fact that I could die more easily and already knowing what was happening only caused me less anxiety, but it did not change that sense of disturbance that is just part of the feature of the game. The Last of Us Part 2 is brutal, full of emotions and feelings: tears fell several times during the experience (and not always for negative things), while some situations even allowed the game to connect empathetically with me by exploiting a "traumatic" simulation at the limits of reality. The personal experience of the player is certainly important, and for this reason some scenes are indissolubly linked to some of my experiences, leading me to spend the next 3 days after the end of the game in a state bordering on catatonic. For heaven's sake, I'm not saying that such a game destroyed my life, God forbid, but it definitely shocked me more than any other game or movie could have.

Respect

You can rest assured: The Last of Us Part 2 it hasn't ruined anything. In the game there is a deep respect and homage towards the events and characters of the first chapter, and you can play the title without having anxieties about any "not respectful" moments towards the rest. Rather.

The way in which everything is told not only gives ample space to many new interesting characters, but it deepens those we already know in ways that we could not even have imagined: it does not do it with words or dialogues, but with a sum of things , which also include facial expressions, music, settings. There is nothing more I can say without breaking any embargoes, for this reason everything else will have to arrive after June 19th.

Spoilers released on Reddit

A bad story has stained this game: a little before its release, leak scenes appeared on the internet with some spoiler very heavy: immediately N, Troy Baker and many others have shown that they do not care, but obviously many fans have lost interest a little. I won't tell you if those spoilers were actually true or not, but I'll just tell you one thing: they count for less than zero. The Last of Us Part 2 must be played, and only in this way can it work its magic. A spoiler can ruin the experience, but that of this game relies heavily on gameplay, not in the definition of a simple set of features, but of the interaction between game, characters and player. So rest assured, enjoy these last few days, because from 19 you will be able to put your hand on one of the most beautiful games ever, and in doing so you will not have to be afraid of what you have discovered: the title will transmit the same feelings, the same anxieties and same emotions he would have done without spoilers.
