Square Enix registers the Chocobo Grand Prix brand in Japan

Square Enix has been surprisingly active in 2020 with the launch of half a dozen remakes from Final Fantasy 7 Remake to the reworked Trials of Mana, in addition to the announcement of new titles such as Final Fantasy 16 for future release. However, a recent move by the company could suggest the resurgence of a spin-off game of final Fantasy directly from 1999, entitled Chocobo Racing, within the larger Chocobo series. In Japan, in fact, the Japanese company recorded Chocobo GP and Chocobo Grand Prix. Trademark registration was only disclosed today. Chocobo GP was recorded in English and Japanese, while Chocobo Grand Prix was recorded only in Japanese.

It is not entirely clear why Chocobo Grand Prix has not received the same bilingual treatment, but it is possible that the software house is planning to release any game connected to the brand with a different title in the West. However, some fans believe it is clear that this new brand is pointing to some sort of planned Chocobo Racing sequel, although this is speculation right now and could be equally related to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 or other related projects. As for the original Chocobo Racing game, this was a unique cart racing title made as part of a much larger Chocobo series, among which Chocobo's Dungeon e Chocobo World, all launched in 1999. There was a sequel planned for the DS, but the game was eventually canceled just a few years after it was announced. The series has mostly been inactive since then, with the most recent title being a remake of the launch of Chocobo's Dungeon in 2019.

This mark could therefore relate to an unannounced event of Final Fantasy 14 o Final Fantasy 11, as well as something else related to Square Enix.
