According to a rumor that appeared during the last few minutes on the ResetEra forum pages, Sony would be in talks for the acquisition of the software house Bluepoint Games. The company based in Austin (Texas) is currently working on the impressive remake dedicated to Demon's Souls, whose launch is planned exclusively on PlayStation 5 since the debut of Sony's new next-gen console set on 19st November.
According to the rumors reported by the user MarsipanRumpan, Sony would have been impressed with Bluepoint Games' capabilities. Recall that the software house has already dealt in the past with other remakes dedicated to PlayStation 4 titles developed in an impeccable way such as Shadow of the Colossus e Gravity Rush Remastered in 2015. In the same year, they also dealt with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, a work that includes the first three chapters of the explosive series conceived by Naughty Dog and originally developed on PlayStation 3.
The user MarsipanRumpan has not only launched the rumor but has even gone into the details, analyzing the possible acquisition both from the point of view of Sony and of Bluepoint Games itself:
From Bluepoint's point of view:
- They want to be sure of have a chance for creating an original IP, they don't want to be simply a "remake studio".
- While appreciating and loving their independence, they also realize that the industry is rapidly growing and evolving. They feel comfortable with their existing partnership with Sony and would have already agreed to make a deal.
From Sony's point of view:
- They were very impressed with the ethics of Bluepoint's work. Create groundbreaking remakes, at a good pace.
- They have a good relationship with other SIE studios, most notably Sony Japan Studios which they have worked with during both Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls.
- Bluepoint's experience, skill and technology for creating their remakes they can be used for future projects not necessarily made by them.
