Sonic: The Hedgehog, announced the release date of the sequel

Thanks to the unexpected announcement we already knew that a sequel to the film Sonic: The Hedgehog it was coming, however the Paramount Pictures has now shared more information about the upcoming film, including a tentative release date (which therefore may vary from moment to moment) defined as April 8 2022. As reported by Comic Book, the sequel - rumored to be codenamed "Emerald Hill”- it will go into production starting from next mid-March 2021 and expects to be completed by 10 May of the same year.

It is not known whether James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Sonic's voice actor Ben Schwartz will also return for the sequel. While we can assume we'll have a chance to see them again, the Comic Book source website linked to Creative BC Film Commission doesn't list any additional information, leaving room for multiple assumptions from the passionate community. When the first movie came out after a delay to work on the (much improved) redesign, it actually worked quite well, generating 76,6 million pounds in its first weekend and making it the absolute best in its category, obviously also counting that it is an adaptation of a video game.

In addition to this, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio producer, Daisuke Sato, recently hinted that he'd like to get involved in a Sonic the Hedgehog game at least once in his career. In an interview celebrating 60 years of SEGA, Sato was asked which SEGA IP he would most like to get his hands on. It's not an easy question given the breadth of SEGA's previous catalog, but Sato immediately and without hesitation aimed at the franchise in question and the company's much-loved mascot: Sonic. That said, did you know that David Prowse, the star wars actor Darth Vader, recently passed away at the age of 85?
