The tweet consists of a photo of a classic recording chair with the film's logo and a short message: “Lights, camera, hedgehog. Production of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 begins today! “.
Since last November we know that the release date of the sequel is set for April 8, 2022. Already in recent months there were rumors of the possibility of the start of work on Sonic The Hedgehog 2 in March, which is actually confirmed today. In December, moreover, there were rumors that they would like one animated series dedicated to Sonic coming soon to the streaming platform Netflix. Jeff Fowler also covered the first film. At the moment, no new details have been revealed regarding the plot. The only certain news is that in Sonic 2 Tails will appear, as well as the return of Eggman and Wachowski. Furthermore, it seems possible that Knuckles will also be present.
It has not yet been officially confirmed whether James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz will also be hired for this sequel, but we have no reason to believe that this will not happen. Sonic's first film grossed £ 76,6m in its first weekend, the best result in this time frame for an animated film in this category. The film had a rather troubled development, following the numerous negative feedbacks related to the original appearance of Sonic, which had nothing to do (objectively) with the historic icon created by SEGA back in 1991. The peculiarity of the likeable character is that of be incredibly fast, hence the explanation of its name: "Sonic", intended to indicate the exceeding of the speed of sound. From the advent of 16-bit consoles to today, the blue hedgehog is still, without a doubt, the icon of SEGA.
