Slightly Mad Studios announces the Mad Box gaming console

We have recently talked about Slightly Mad Studios and Project CARS 3, the new driving simulator that promises to be the spiritual successor to Need for Speed Shift. The studio, however, is not solely concerned with software. The CEO Ian Bell has in fact announced on Twitter that they are developing a new gaming console. There Mad Box, this is the name of the console, will be in the words of Bell the most powerful console ever built.

In the following tweets Bell has listed what the characteristics of the new console will be: games at 4K resolution, support for the main virtual reality sets with games at 120 FPS (60 per eye), but above all a free engine on which to develop your own games. These are the cards with which Mad Box will challenge the competition of PlayStation and Xbox. Interview from Variety the founder of Slightly Mad Studios said:

We think the industry is a little too similar to a monopoly or a micro-oligopoly. […] We think competition is healthy and we have the hardware connections needed to be able to accomplish something epic based on our designs.

The images of the first prototypes of the console will arrive in the next 4-6 weeks. As for the price, Bell has only stated that it will be competitive with the other platforms. What do you think of this announcement? Will there be room on the market for another console? let us know in the comments.

    The Mad Box is coming.

What is the Mad Box? It's the most powerful console ever built… It's literally 'Mad'… You want 4k, you want VR at 60FPS? Do you want a full engine for free to develop your games on it? You have it.

Not faked no. A solid 120 FPS with 60 per eye. I'm signed up to a lot of NDA's but some of the hardware incoming will cope.
