SEGA: restructuring in sight, Yakuza's dad will no longer be CCO

SEGA: restructuring in sight, Yakuza's dad will no longer be CCO

Sega has recently announced, with a series of press releases, that it is restructuring its business, dividing the gaming division (console and PC) from the pachinko division starting next April 1st. Both companies will remain the property of SEGA Sammy. The corporate reorganization will also include significant changes among its executives. The former president and CEO of the group, Hajime satomi, will leave the current position in favor of his son Haruki Satomi, who was the face of the company for a short period of time as COO (chief operating officer). From next April he will become the new CEO of the multinational.

Furthermore, the position of Chief Creative Officer currently covered by Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of the development studio Ryu Ga Gotoku and the series Yakuza, would be removed from the executive roster. However, according to what emerged, the now former CCO will not leave Sega and will continue to work for the well-known publisher and game developer such as creative director. This may indicate a more practical approach with the development phase of upcoming projects. In recent years Nagoshi has been executive director of not only various titles in the Yakuza franchise, such as Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2, but he also served as executive producer on Sakura Wars, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020, Team Sonic Racing and many others. Only time will tell how these changes affect Sega's long-term plans, especially as it relates to Nagoshi's production.

Waiting to find out more details on the renovation at Sega, we remind you that Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 are currently available for free on Xbox and PC for all Game Pass subscribers, along with Control and the long-awaited The Medium by Bloober Team.
