Sega Mega Drive Mini it adds to the many miniature reproductions of the various “ancient” consoles that have made the history of the videogame and, as for many, also my personal history. How can we forget the first time you go to the home of a lucky friend who owns a console? Well, if today the rare case is the boy who does not have it, twenty-five years ago it was the opposite. When I reviewed the little Mega Drive in front of me at the booth Koch Media in Cologne Gamescom it is undeniable that he felt a thrill. What has changed compared to many years ago? In addition to the dimensions, we find a videogame sector that exceeds forty pre-installed games, obviously it is not possible to insert cartridges, while there are small goodies inside such as Tetris original, which was not released on cartridge in Japan but only as an arcade cabinet product and that is why the technical sheet, present in every game on the Megadrive Mini, reports our current year of release as the year of release.
There are also other nice details that made my experience interesting: in the main menu you can sort the titles by genre, name, serial number, release date and even percentage of completion. For the more nostalgic, it is also possible to select the Japanese language, and here the covers of the titles will not only be translated but the image may differ from the European one, and consequently, it will change. It is equally possible to virtually rotate the game case and highlight the rib, as if we had a real library to store our titles. In addition, you can save the game at any time of any game you are playing, and even create up to four saves for a single game, even “locking” one or more saves in order to avoid accidental overwriting. Strong of a really handy mini controller, the console will allow you to play in full screen resolution (but I do not recommend it given the width of our modern screens) or in four thirds, which is the original format of the system. I am sure the console will be a sales success and I must say that a similar piece was undoubtedly missing from the collection.
