Ruined King: a League of Legends Story - Airship Syndicate strategic RPG preview

After the astonishing success that Riot Games managed to collect with its main title league of legends, Riot Forge has been officially announced, as we have detailed in this article. We are talking about a second studio that also owns the software house, which is not dedicated to the creation of new works or to the development of some already existing ones, but to publishing. The main focus of the branch lies in the search for developers, who must be ready to collaborate to expand the universe of league of legends with story-driven titles in their own right, well further away from the now consolidated genre to which Riot Games has accustomed us. Among the works ready to take on this objective we find Ruined King: a League of Legends Story.

Announced on December 13 during the The Game Awards 2019 this is the first game that will tell the story of the gigantic universe of the famous MOBA eSport. We have in our hands the scenario of a work that has a precise and constantly expanding lore, and a quantity of contents outside the logic of practically any other title. Just imagine that the game currently has around 150 different champions, each with a history and intertwining behind it, a provenance that it shares with others and a character of its own.

Precisely for this reason, the software house has decided to focus on works that enlarged and deepened their universe in a different way, as getting out of the narrative canons that it created itself was never in their plans. After analyzing the trailer for Ruined King: a League of Legends Story and all the details currently available on the net, we are finally ready to tell you about the first work that will enlarge the universe just mentioned.

The choice of Airship Syndicate

As already mentioned in the tasks of the publisher Riot Forge the search for software houses suitable for working on the narrative universe of League of Legends is also included. For this, after careful research, Airship Syndicate was chosen from among many candidates, for several reasons. We are not dealing with newbies, just think that the software house in question has developed the very recent one Darksiders genesis, game of which you can find the review here. We are not talking about a masterpiece, but a game that despite being a spin-off has managed to bring the soul of the Darksiders brand to a new genre of gameplay.

However, this was not the variable that made this studio talented and suitable in the eyes of Riot Forge. Although it is a much less famous and ambitious project, Airship Syndicate has taken care of Battle Chaser. It is a not particularly expansive strategic combat title, which made its debut in 2017 and has shown an artistic sector outside the norm. This was particularly taken care of by company co-founder Joe Madureira, the one who made a comic series of the same name. The title has been released on all platforms, and this too is definitely a plus.

What the publishing studio has certainly not hidden is the desire to open up to other platforms, just as happened with the main software house through the announcement of Wild Rift. The general policies therefore aim to take completely different genres, which can be brought to new markets and allow a greater slice of the public to enjoy them, without however excluding the now consolidated world of the PC. Ruined King: a League of Legends Story is in fact thought of as a strategic turn-based one certainly also suitable for console, but consecrated by the functionality of Nintendo Switch. The title will be an RPG that will see some of the iconic champions venture between the settings of the Shadow Isles and Bilgewater, which you can admire in the images in the article.

The two locations present a great variety of characters - especially after some of the events recently narrated in the lore of League of Legends - who have allowed a fair evolution of these places. Between pirates and sea creatures, up to spirits bound to the darkness, there will certainly be indulging in. Unfortunately, we do not know anything about what the game can actually be on balance, given that no gameplay frame has been shown and there have been no hints to the narrative sector except in an extremely general line. We just have to wait for the next few months, hoping that new details will come to the surface, as well as a possible launch window.
