Roberto Recchioni: interview on Street Fighter V

During the official launch event of Street Fighter V in Rome held at the ASD ICON between the evening of February 15 and the night of 16, we had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Roberto Recchioni! What will he have to tell us about the fighting game par excellence?

Roberto Recchioni: interview on Street Fighter V

Resources4Gaming: Here we are with Roberto Recchioni who, in addition to being a renowned cartoonist, is also the director of Dylan Dog, known above all for this, and we met him here at the event dedicated to the day one of Street Fighter V at the ASD Icon of Rome. Let's imagine given your presence here, that you undoubtedly love the brand!

Roberto Recchioni: Yes, I played the first one Street Fighter when he was a kid in London, I fell in love with it, when the two came out it became a true religion, I think I bought all the existing cartridge versions for SNES, then I continued with the "3rd Strike" which is what convinced me the least but probably because I'm too casual a player to really appreciate it, and when it returned to the consoles that were the "next gen" then, the Xbox 360 and the PS3, I went back to playing seriously online and this fifth chapter convinced me to return to playing very seriously.

GL: So we can imagine that maybe you will return to play on PC or PS4.

RR: I believe I'll play it on PS4.

GL: Perfect. We would like to understand which character you started from, which is the character that made you fall in love at the beginning and maybe the one who then, by dint of playing, became your favorite character.

RR: i am a really old gamer, i started playing with Ryu and I was practically always with him except for a very brief parenthesis with Chun-Li at the exit of the second chapter and then return immediately with Ryu, they are really the banality made in person * laughs *.

GL: You were not convinced by the new character ...

RR: No, I'm the one who has too little skills, I'm what the average video game character takes so Ryu was perfect.

GL: This fifth chapter, from what we understand, has struck you positively for some characteristic elements. So let's imagine there was something about Street Fighter IV that didn't convince you

RR: but simply the other chapters, the 3rd Strike in particular and a little less the IV, they seemed strongly pro gamer to me; the 3rd Strike was just beyond my capabilities probably still today, the fourth I did not give him the necessary commitment and time to become a good player. With this fifth chapter, also considering the fact that I bought it on day one, I think I will dedicate more time to it.

Roberto Recchioni: interview on Street Fighter V
Resources4Gaming: So is your goal to become a good competitive player or is it to remain a casual gamer?

Roberto Recchioni: We always play for the competitive! And you've never seen me on Halo! I'm really cool on Halo * laughs *

GL (Nucky): Do you play on Halo? We have to exchange Nick then!

RR: Ok! I was playing in the first national Counter-Strike! As for Halo I think the most beautiful is Halo 3, but the 5, the last one, looks a lot like it and is definitely a big step forward compared to the 4 that I really can't tolerate it.

GL: Let's go back to the dear fighting games, besides Street Fighter are there any other titles of the genre that you like?

RR: For fighting games I think it's a bit like martial arts, you decide a style to love and learn, it's like a religion and you stick to that religion. I do not love Tekken, I do not like the various Virtual Fighter, for me Street Fighter it is that, with those characters, two-dimensional, with a maniacal logic of timing and space management, it is martial art made digital.

GL: What do you think about the choice of having put a fairly limited number of playable characters on day one and above all what do you think of the new characters introduced?

RR: the game is clearly unfinished, it arrives at day one absolutely unfinished; there is no arcade mode to name one, but there are really no consistent pieces, it is clear that Capcom was late with the release of the game by missing important pieces of the game that will be released in the coming weeks or months via updates.

GL: The campaign, for example, will be released in June.

RR: Yes, the arcade fortunately should be out soon and I hope so since this is the basic mode for any fighting game, it is almost the reason why a gamer buys such a title.

GL: as far as the story mode is concerned, there is even talk of a plot comparable to that of Star Wars.

RR: Yes yes! I heard… oh well there are a bit pumped up statements in the world of video games, we're used to a certain Kojima * laughs *. No honestly, the fact of having bought a game, having to go home and install something like 5 gigabytes and then practically it's just the "starter pack" of Street Fighter V, certainly does not excite me, but in the end the heart of the game is multiplayer and online are there. However, the new characters will certainly arrive when they are missing Sagat, Honda and Blanka you know the DLC is there ready to tell you “we'll come”.

Roberto Recchioni: interview on Street Fighter V GL: What do you think of the new characters? For example we have noticed that many use Laura.

RR: I didn't really get to try them; I saw that Laura combines some attacks and some logic of characters of the IV that have been excluded in this fifth chapter, but I have not really had the opportunity to try it and therefore I would speak out of proportion until I play them all thoroughly.

GL: perfect, we thank you for the interview you gave us and for the wonderful drawing with dedication!

RR: thanks to you! Greetings to all Resources4Gaming readers!

And of course we too can not help but renew our thanks to Roberto Recchioni for the time he has dedicated to us, hoping to meet him also in the next dedicated events!
