Resident Evil returns to the cinema, announced the cinematic reboot of the horror series

Surprisingly today a new film dedicated to resident evil, the historic horror video game saga created by Capcom, which will be a real cinematic reboot for the brand, completely detaching itself from the already existing series of films written and produced by Paul WS Anderson from 2002 to 2017, which unfortunately did not achieve the hoped-for success. After the unfortunate series of starring films Milla Jovovich, the hopes of returning to see a product dedicated to Resident Evil in theaters or on TV were reduced to a minimum. However, after the huge positive reception regarding the new TV series produced by Netflix dedicated to the horror game series by Capcom, the German studios of Constantin Film has decided to relaunch this historic brand also on the big screen, entrusting the project to the director Johannes Roberts.

The events will take place in Raccoon City in 1998, in an original story written by Roberts himself starring the historical characters of the game. Robbie amell (Upload) will play Chris Redfield, Kaya Scoledario (Maze Runner) will be Claire Redfield and finally Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) will be Jill Valentine. Finally the cast will also include Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker e Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Shot) who will play Leon S. Kennedy.

With this film I really wanted to go back to the origins of the first two games and recreate the terrifying experience I had playing them for the first time, telling the story of a small dying American town that can be both recognizable and relevant to today's audience. After six action-packed films and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return in 1998 to fully explore all the secrets hidden within the walls of Villa Spenser and Raccoon City.

The director's words seem very reassuring and we really hope it can give new light to this historic horror series also on the big screen. obviously the Netflix TV series and this movie have nothing in common, are two parallel projects in production, but which in any case remain completely detached from each other. For now, we just have to wait to find out any release dates and a trailer dedicated to this new film project.
