Resident Evil 3 - Preview of the new Capcom remake

Let's talk about a new Remake developed by Capcom with its RE Engine owner, now become a real pearl considering the latest titles of the software house released, such as Devil May Cry 5 and above all Resident Evil 2.

We have carefully analyzed the official announcement trailer, dwelling on all the details that have been presented, and we are here today to tell you about it before the release. scheduled for April 3 next year. Here's our preview of Resident Evil 3!Resident Evil 3 - Preview of the new Capcom remake

The heart-pounding trailer for Resident Evil 3

What was shown during it State of Play di Sony and that you can find on the cover of the article is not just a video announcement, it is not a few seconds teaser ... but it is rather a truly breathtaking short film. The undisputed protagonist is Jill Valentine, the woman who also took part in the events of the original game in the now distant 1999. The trailer leaves no breath in any way for those who are about to see it, with a heart-pounding chase obviously against the protagonist and a disastrous and disturbing scenario.

Almost the entire duration of the scene, altogether short, is seasoned by the escape from something initially unknown, but which then shows itself as an imposing shadow when to grab Jill he destroys an entire floor in order to make her fall and catch her. The entire sequence is in first person view, a feature that makes the whole context - as well as the general atmosphere - somewhat darker and more ghostly, and at the same time proving capable of taking your breath away. Unfortunately or fortunately though ... Resident Evil 3 is a third-person shooter survival horror.

In fact, we do not know if we will have the opportunity to experience these magnificent sequences when the product arrives on the shelves, but we know that this eventuality, if present, will still be quite marginal. The developers have confirmed that just like its predecessor remake, this work will have the camera constantly placed behind Jill, and the shooting system will obviously be designed accordingly.

Not bad when you think of the scenes we got to experience in Resident Evil 2, which were anything but to be trashed. The RE Engine makes it possible to bring a jaw-splitting graphic compartment to the screens flanked by movements bordering on reality, as is photorealism in the general complex. The animations and the graphics sector that can be seen in the very few seconds of pure gameplay do not seem to be outdone. The shooting system also seems to have been slightly altered, even if we will be able to talk about the feeling of the latter only when we have the game in our hands and we will see its actual qualities and flaws.Resident Evil 3 - Preview of the new Capcom remake

A new character design for the protagonists

For those who have been lucky enough to enjoy the original Resident Evil 3, some further particular details will surely be noticed. In fact, it is possible to see new interactions with some non-player characters, and above all a whole new character design that shows itself strongly in the trailer. The new Jill and the new Carlos revealed are in fact slightly different from how they were thought towards the end of the 90s, but this choice is certainly in line with the policies that Capcom decided to adopt by getting to work on these remakes. The titles coming to this generation have in fact a gameplay and a general system completely restored starting from the basics, but at the same time they are very respectful of what has been the past of the medium - and consequently the Resident Evil games that literally gave birth to the survival horror genre - which we see coming out now commonly.

Among other things, it is possible to see in the video Jill's famous dodge, which will probably be a constant element in the gameplay, even if for now we have only had the opportunity to admire it through a cutscene. The events seem to take place in the same time frame as the original game, which is a day before Leon and Claire arrive in the terrifying Raccoon City. This feature is confirmed by the rather cryptic but useful clock that opens the dances of the video shown.

The whole city is as usual in fact in total panic, with infected popping up from every corner and survivors running wildly in search of any shelter or help that could allow them to survive, even if that is rather unlikely. We can now also say with certainty that this remake will surely have the most interesting and iconic feature that featured the original Resident Evil 3 ... the Nemesis.Resident Evil 3 - Preview of the new Capcom remake

Resident Evil 3's iconic Nemesis

It is absolutely not possible to talk about Resident Evil 3 without mentioning the feared one Nemesis, the creature that perhaps made the saga famous all by itself. The creation of the laboratory will be unleashed "fortunately" also in the Raccoon City of 2020, in a changed guise but also respectful of the glories of the past. In fact, we were able to see the face of the monster, which we have shown in the photo you find above, but we have not yet been able to admire it in plain sight.

In fact, Jill is chased by a shadow, which we know to be the indistinguishable Nemesis given her behavior, but which has not yet shown itself in great shape. But what the developers told us during an interview is that we will have to be particularly afraid of the new enemy. This in fact will be much more fearful than Mr. X that we were able to admire in Resident Evil 2, as it will be able to perform a greater amount of actions in order to grab the protagonists.Resident Evil 3 - Preview of the new Capcom remake

Resident Evil becomes an asymmetrical horror

Asymmetrical horror are titles in which several players try to survive, trying to escape the clutches of a single player who tries to claim as many victims as possible. This virtually reinvented genre - and brought into vogue by the now famous Dead by Daylight - has become quite common in today's market situation. The title just mentioned, which is still configured as the best successful progenitor in terms of numbers and contents, continues to be updated with DLCs that add new characters or imported from other works.

Just trying to step straight into a somewhat similar scenario, Capcom announced Project Resistance several months ago, an asymmetrical horror set in the universe of R Evil which is certainly more than adequate in terms of themes, at least on paper. What was stated during the State of Play December 10, however, is certainly surprising, because after discovering the change of direction on the name of this multiplayer game, we were able to find out how this will position itself effectively. The game is confirmed it will be called in fact Resident Evil Resistance and apparently it does not seem to be purchasable individually, as will be included for free in Resident Evil 3.Resident Evil 3 - Preview of the new Capcom remake

The new interesting Capcom maneuver

If from the premises it seemed that the title wanted to constitute a separate chapter of the saga - that it also took the burden of postponing a new remake or Resident Evil 8 - Capcom has shown us that the plans are very different, as well as clearly more genuine and appreciable. Since the game will be free and completely optional, the expectations towards this work and the demands of the public are altered accordingly, obviously projecting himself in a completely different way from what would have happened in the imagined situation, which was already causing many to turn up their noses.

The initial doubts presented on the net by the community concerned the character and identity of Resident Evil Resistance, since many thought you could not create a game with the soul of this brand without there being some kind of player campaign inside. single. This announcement could actually be the confirmation of this, greatly decreasing the expectations towards the work, but even if that were the case, the developer decided to take the safer route.

Since this will be a real addition disconnected from the base game, its more or less good success will not in the least affect the decidedly more traditional singleplayer sector that Resident Evil 3 will contain, given that the two experiences will share exclusively the RE Engine and the setting. Furthermore, the free-to-play nature of the game exempts Capcom from any criticism of high access costs or a mode not up to the price. Those who strongly want a reinterpretation of the Resident Evil 3 brand in the form of multiplayer, as happened with Resident Evil Outbreak, it will also be able to find in its digital or virtual packaging a story in its own right, which is also totally optional as it is detached. In a nutshell ... it seems that Capcom wants to keep its nomination of "the software house that does not miss a beat" which he has collected in recent years, after some failures, and Resident Evil Resistance insurance is certainly a great gimmick.

The soul of Resident Evil Resistance

Despite what was said in the last paragraph, this spin-off should not be considered as a work already bankrupt even before its arrival, also considering that the premises currently put into play are quite flattering. In the online games there will be four survivors and a Mastermind, according to the tradition of asymmetrical 4vs1. What the unfortunate will have to do is obviously relatively intuitive, but variables will be ready to hinder their path.

The Mastermind is a character who kidnaps kids to study their reactions in the face of extreme situations, given that on every occasion he decides to push the bar of their resistance as much as possible, even if it is not known why. However, we are aware that this character works at Umbrella, and that it has many means to prevent the protagonists from successfully abandoning the maps without leaving their pens. Between usable and infected massively aggressive and controllable mechanisms, the survivors will surely have a good deal to peel, but also the tools to do so.

The latter will in fact be equipped with firearms, and the play sector is also this time in the third person and sees the camera positioned behind each character. Being able to counter the hordes of zombies will certainly not be easy - but with skill and collaboration it will be possible as the possibilities will not be lacking - although we probably will not be able to say the same about the ammunition. With these premises Resident Evil Resistance seems to be preparing at best for its debut on the market also obviously planned for the April 3 2020; the spin-off will need to present a soul and not simply follow in the footsteps of more famous titles, and probably thanks to the peculiarities of the gameplay and the magnificent RE Engine will be able to succeed in its intent. We also don't know if Capcom will decide to expand its spin-off over time with post-launch support, or if this mode is intended to be an already balanced and finite experience.
