Rapture Rejects - Preview, the Cyanide & Happiness Apocalypse

God sees you, and you would do well to listen to his words. Maybe something has gone wrong, because the creator really seems on a rampage, and the doomsday doomsday is taking shape. Over the past few weeks we've had the opportunity to test the Alpha version of the irreverent, mad and reckless Rapture Rejects, the isometric Battle Royale developed by tinyBuild and set in the colorful and perverse world of Cyanide & Happiness. Clearly some of the functions are not yet available or under development, but the structure and destination are already concrete: devastation!

Armageddon Incoming!

As already mentioned, the currently available version of the title is an Alpha version, which means that not all features the game will include are currently available. Even if the narrative pretext is not explained in words within the game, already from the launch trailer the story seems quite clear: God unleashed Armageddon after saving and ascending to his side only the deserving ones. In a world ravaged between fire and corpses, we will be one of the Rejects (literally, the "waste"), where our task will be to be the only survivor worthy to be saved and reach the Father in Heaven. However, as soon as we started the game from the official tinyBuild launcher, a very basic creation mode of our Reject could not be missing! The creation mode sees dozens of items available between hair and glasses, but there will also be hats and objects of other types. Clearly, given the nature of the title, you will not find the distinction between "male" and "female", but you can also create real ones "Hybrids" with… er… the elements available: for example, you can combine a body with a female breast with a male voice, adding if you want also… well, the swelling of the male lower parts. All of these choices will have no impact on the game itself, simply serving as a customization for the game avatar.

Punishment, bloody punishment

On a practical level, the game is a Battle Royale in all respects, where the backdrop will be a large arena between buildings, gardens and streets devastated by the ongoing apocalypse, with the map that will gradually be devastated by the divine fire. The view will be, as already mentioned, isometric, and the controls are set in several points of the keyboard to make the game adaptable to each player. You will move with the directional arrows, with the classic "wasd" or with the numeric keypad, while to direct your attacks you will use your faithful mouse. The rest of the keys available follow a classic mapping, complete with a slot for healing items, a reload key and so on. Once you have overcome the obstacle linked to adaptation, Rapture Rejects will face you for what it seems right from the start: an adrenaline-pumping and politically incorrect bloodbath. Taking advantage of covers and buildings will be vital to win, as well as the collection of the most varied weapons and ammunition around the map, from the nail gun to unconventional machine guns.

As in the modus operandi of all Battle Royale, There are also crates in Rapture Rejects, which will give you much more useful items than those found by chance. Are there also special boxes? Absolutely yes! Golden boxes will be "dropped" at certain intervals of time by none other than God himself! Determining characteristics of the title at the moment are only those related to its identity as Cyanide & Happiness, but we expect with the development to see substantial additions also in this sense. For now, a very small in-game feature that has caught our attention is the possibility of using special turrets to expand the visible range of the map (vulgarly, we will see the map from further away), so as to realize if any enemy is nearby. ready to tear us apart.

As seen by the Alpha, Rapture Rejects promises laughter and fun, especially when played in a group. For now, the action periods are limited to the weekend due to development, and we can't wait to see how the work evolves in the coming months!
