Project xCloud: Unlikely to launch on Apple products

Perhaps one of the coolest things on the part of Microsoft products out this year, in addition to Xbox Series X, is Project xCloud. The company recently announced that xCloud will be available to members of its Game Pass Ultimate service starting next month with over 100 Xbox games. Unfortunately, he went on to say he would only bring this service to Android devices next month, leaving many with questions about the future of iOS support.

Project xCloud, for the uninitiated, is a new Xbox service that allows users to stream games to their mobile device and play their favorite titles anywhere with the help of a wireless Bluetooth Xbox controller. Lately, Xbox confirmed that the streaming service would be even with a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription without additional costs.

In a declaration a The Verge, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that it has finished its version testing period iOS of xCloud, and focuses solely on the version Android in the future. However, the spokesperson continued:

It is our ambition to scale cloud games via Xbox Game Pass available on all devices.

While Microsoft hasn't explicitly stated why the iOS version was terminated, many speculate that Apple's restrictive policies are to blame.

Potentially one of the most damaging policies Apple has put in place involves in-app purchases. The apple company requires to receive a portion of sales on in-app purchases when made through a digital store, otherwise games are not allowed in the store. And since gamers don't technically purchase the games they're streaming through Project xCloud, some of these titles have microtransactions that Apple would be entitled to.

iOS gamers will be particularly disappointed right now, but Android users are sure to be thrilled. Microsoft has created a multitude of different accessories for Xbox mobile titles to make the experience more enjoyable for any enthusiast.
