Project xCloud: Phil Spencer talks about the potential of streaming

A few hours after the surprising announcement he sees Project xCloud integral part of the subscription Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at no additional cost, Phil Spencer, during an interview with The Verge, decided to talk about the potential of gaming streaming services, underlining that this is the future of the industry. Here are his words on the matter:

As time goes on, we will continue to expand the ways we introduce streaming as part of the platform and playing games you own that are not part of the subscription. At launch it will be included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at no additional cost. We think it's a good audience to start with and it's an audience that plays a lot of titles. We want Project xCloud to reach every screen where it will be possible to play in streaming sooner or later. As things stand, we are mainly focusing on mobile devices. […] We want this experience to be as simple as it is for music and video, where for example I can send someone a track on Spotify who can then hear it instantly. Over time, any place I see a game will be eligible to try it out.

Spencer said that Project xCloud is not the definitive name of the ambitious streaming service, which will inevitably clash with Google Stadia given their similar nature. We will have to wait a little longer to see the real potential of the project Microsoft products. What do you think about it? Do you think the future envisioned by Phil Spencer is too utopian?
