PlayStation focuses on fighting games, officially acquired EVO

Sony has just bought one of the companies that manage the tournaments eSports most famous of the market, we talk about the EVO (Evolution Championship Series) which has been dealing with since 1996 to manage competitions for fighting games world-wide. PlayStation worked with RTS, a brand consulting and developer management firm, for the acquisition joint of EVO, thus also obtaining the support of important investors in the videogame-themed sports entertainment market. The acquisition of EVO is a great blow since the company has been involved over the years also and above all in the management of competitions on fighting and similar games. We leave you the announcement with the Sony tweet at the bottom of the article.

Furthermore, after the aforementioned acquisition, EVO will take the form and nomenclature of EVO Online, and will open a completely remote competition system through the use of the Internet, probably also due to the recent Covid-19 pandemic. The official competition will be held from 6 to 8 and from 13 to 15 August of 2021 and admission will be free for all players from North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America and players will be able to compete in many fighting-themed titles such as: in Tekken 7, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Guilty Gear and other. A competition that will therefore become very intense, with a considerable number of titles and an audience that can be very large, given that the qualifications will be resumed in streaming.

Furthermore, according to Sony, the priority for this new acquisition is theaccessibility of the competition, understood as the inclusion of all the public interested in the videogame universe and fighting games. In fact, inclusion must be understood as a unifying element, capable of uniting multiple people regardless of theirs nationality, language, and with regard to people with disabilities. In fact, in the statement, PlayStation stated among other things:

PlayStation recorded over 1,1 billion hours of gameplay in 2020 alone (for fighting games). We are committed to breaking down the barriers that allow players to compete at all levels and providing them with a first-rate global platform to (allow them to) showcase their skills and passions.
