PlayStation 5: The games could have been much more expensive

There is now a little more than a week to go to the shops of PlayStation 5, the new console of Sony who will have to collect the heavy inheritance of PS4 and battle with Xbox Series X e S. With the launch line-up now completely unveiled and in the public domain, the question that many players had asked themselves was about the selling price of the games of the new next-gen console, which could have far exceeded those of PlayStation 4. Fortunately, this fear proved unfounded and, on average, it was revealed that the price of PS5 games exceeds that of the PS10 titles just released. Yet that gap could have been much wider.

To reveal it is Bloomberg, the well-known US financial portal which, in one of its recent report, pointed out that the price of the base games could have been much higher than $ 70. The idea of setting a price of over $ 80 has been contemplated by many software houses that, for fear of backlashes in sales, they decided to keep their own price range of $ 60-70. At present, a price of € 60 is universally accepted as an "acceptable" cost to buy a new game and raising the bar too much could seriously annoy players. Fear that, for example, 2K he didn't have it when he announced that NBA 2K21 it would have had a higher price than the previous chapters of the basketball series.

The price increase would have been justified by theincrease in production costs securities that, with the advancement of technology, become more complex and therefore wasteful of resources to invest. Also according to the report, spending $ 60 in 1990 is equivalent to spending $ 117 today and for this reason many developers agreed, at least initially on wanting to raise the price for next-gen titles to be distributed on Sony's new platform. Considering the line - at the moment cautious - maintained by the main software houses, we just have to wait for the next few months to find out if 70 € will actually remain the "standard" price to be able to buy a new game for PlayStation 5.
