PlayStation 5: Sony clarifies how far the backward compatibility of the console will extend

During the presentation held yesterday by Sony, in which not only were shown only the final technical specifications of the new one PlayStation 5, but there was also talk of backward compatibility. In particular, Mark Cerny has confirmed that the next-gen console of the Japanese company will be compatible only with games released on PS4. At the moment, therefore, backward compatibility with PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation3 seems to be excluded.

According to the words of the lead system architect of PlayStation 5, the previous generation counts more than 4000 titles published, and Sony plans to pay playable at launch 100 of the most played and popular games on PS4. For greater clarity, we report below what Mark Cerny said:

Finally, we are happy to confirm that the backwards compatibility features are working correctly. We recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles by overall playtime, and we expect nearly all of them to be playable on PS5 at launch. Over 4 games have been released on PS4000: we will continue to test and over time we will expand backwards compatibility to more and more titles.
