PlayStation 5: sales below expectations in Japan according to Bloomberg

Last November we experienced the long-awaited arrival of the new generation of consoles, thanks to the release of PlayStation 5 e Xbox Series X / S. Unfortunately the launch of these new consoles was perhaps one of the most difficult ever, which due to the Covid-19 pandemic have been very problematic especially for all fans who have had to manage the purchase of consoles and games through e-commerce sites or web resellers ... which among other things has given rise to scams (such as the case of Euromediashop right here in Spain), or even touts and scalpers who have amassed thousands of consoles to resell them for at least double the original price.

According to a report made by Takashi Mochizuki Bloomberg, most notably PlayStation 5 had a launch far below management's expectations Sony, especially in Japan, which has pushed a lot on the marketing of the new home-gaming system in this 2020. In the article we see how the console has sold little more than 100 thousand units on launch day on Japanese territory, reaching around 213.000 copies sold in total over the last 30 days, according to Famitsu. However, Mochizuki points out one discrepancy between the amount of consoles sold and the number of games placed on the market, which in the first month reach around 63.000 units, which suggests that many consoles may still be in the hands of touts or 'scalpers' trying to get rich by selling systems at crazy prices.

This situation also was very accentuated by the pandemic which still looms over the world, which has unfortunately facilitated these criminals who have managed to accumulate thousands of products also using automated systems that have plumbed the length and breadth of the web in search of PlayStation 5 not yet placed, and unfortunately it didn't just happen in Japan. In short, according to Bloomberg, the Tokyo multinational absolutely must get up from this bad situation, looking to make their next-gen console a real hit over the next 12 months.
