According to what emerged in the last few hours, PlayStation 5 not only would it be an excellent game console, but it would have all the credentials for mining Ethereum, one of the many virtual currencies available on the market today. According to the information reported by Gadget Tendency, although the hardware components of the gaming peripheral would be sufficient to perform this practice, a group of Chinese users would have been able to modify a series of PS5, bypassing the limitations imposed by the system, so as to be able to take advantage of the gaming hardware for mining.
As can be seen from the screen, which you can easily retrieve at the bottom of the article, the procedure was successfully started on the console, obtaining noteworthy performance, since the latter managed to reach the 98,76 MH, with an energy consumption of 211 W. We remind you that the console uses an AMD Ryzen CPU on Zen 2 microarchitecture (x86, 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 3,5 GHz) and AMD Radeon GPU with RDNA 2 architecture (ray tracing acceleration; up to 2,23 GHz, 10,3 teraflops), therefore we cannot exclude the possibility that this result was obtained not only by hacking the various units of PlayStation 5, but also overclocking the console, since the "native" performance of the peripheral should be comparable to that of an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT with 50 MH / s.
Surely this is a noteworthy enterprise, but one that could soon have a significant impact also on the availability of the peripheral in the future, given that at the moment it is quite complicated to find a PlayStation 5, this new console skill could only make the situation worse.
