PlayStation 5: DualSense cover can be removed

PlayStation 5: DualSense cover can be removed

It seems that Sony has designed the PlayStation 5 thinking of its strong personalization. After several rumors regarding interchangeable parts, it was officially confirmed with the official console disassembly video that its side plates are easily replaceable. This means that there is the possibility to modify some of its components, and that users will presumably be able to purchase new branded side parts, although Sony has not currently released any official announcement to that effect. This great customization, however, also seems to concern the brand new DualSense.

As pointed out in a video by YouTuber John Glasscock, the black plastic casing on the bottom of the controller, which surrounds its analog sticks, microphone, home button and speaker, can be removed. In fact, this can be removed with surprising ease, without even needing any special tools. Most likely, we believe, the options for custom parts for both the controller and the console sideplates will be officially made available shortly after launch, either through Sony or through official third-party partners. Indeed, in the video (lasting just over two minutes), Glasscock is able to remove the black part of the new controller simply with the pressure of the fingers. Although this operation it could only be used to clean the DualSense from dust, the ease with which it can be completed suggests the possibility of replacing the component with a customized one. If Sony hasn't thought about it (unlikely) we are sure that other small industries can start offering custom parts, perhaps with branded titles for the same PlayStation 5.

Recently, we also learned that DualSense it doesn't appear to be compatible with PS4, although it will work with PS3 and (strangely) Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, Sony has also confirmed that, as part of the PlayStation 5's accessibility features, Adaptive triggers and DualSense haptic feedback can be reduced or even disabled entirely. We just have to wait for an official position from Sony also on the customization of the new DualSense.
