A little less than a month has passed since the release in our country of PlayStation 5 e PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, a launch that not only sold out in just over five minutes, but that sent several e-commerce companies into a tailspin. But now that the console has officially made its debut, priced at respectively 499,99 € e 399,99 €, many wonder if the cost of the device has been influenced by the advent of the coronavirus health emergency, which has caused many problems for the giants of the videogame sector in production. Fortunately Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is back on the subject once again.

During a recent interview with EDGE microphones, the Japanese company boss reiterated, once and for all, that the price of PlayStation 5 e PlayStation 5 Digital Edition was not in the least affected by the pandemic, and that the latter it had already been decided at the beginning of 2020. Also, according to Ryan, Sony's goal was to place the machine on the market at a cost that would appeal to gamers. We report his words in detail:

Our preferred price was determined earlier this calendar year, pre-lockdown. Once we made the final decision, we moved on with our strategy.

No, no, he hasn't [changed], no. We managed to launch PlayStation 5 for $ 399 / € 399 with all the power and feature set that the console has, at the same price as we launched PS4 in 2013. This was important to us, and we're very proud to be succeeded in our intent. 399 $ / 399 € worked very well for us last time and we hope it works very well this time too.
