The container ship that is currently blocked in the Suez Canal is certainly news that has now reached everyone's eyes and ears. For a couple of days, following an "accident" on the way, one of the most commercial outlets important to the world from which practically every type of product passes, from electronics to clothing etc ... is stopped. This results in delays of items, skyrocketing prices and consequently various other problems. Delays also affecting new stocks of PlayStation 5.
The console Sony it is a product that already in "normal" circumstances turns out to be practically unobtainable. Bots, touts and limited quantities of items, also partly due to the aftermath that the economy and the production of parts is carrying with it following the global pandemic from Covid-19, could get even worse. PlayStation 5, re-entering the finished consumer electronics market, is mainly distributed by Asian factories which, as you can imagine, use the Suez Canal as their main source of distribution. Suffice it to say that just over 10% of world trade passes right here.
It is estimated that due to this incident, which we hope will be resolved as soon as possible, delays in the delivery of the various products could even occur for several months, as there will also be further time delays to make each ship return to its port to collect the goods. Combined with a shortage of some fundamental elements for manufacturing, such as the semiconductor chips used on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, getting a new generation console will be even more difficult than now (and now it's not easy at all).
According to reports on the net, the current PlayStation 5 stocks are stationary inside various warehouses in Asia waiting to be loaded once the situation returns to normal and that the container ship hurls itself to continue its route. Sony could take it however alternative roads as many are beginning to implement. Air transport, for example, it could be a temporary solution. Others, on the other hand, have chosen not to stop and take a much longer ride, passing outside the African continent, to avoid possible and higher delays.
