PlayStation 4: Update 8.00 available starting today

The arrival of is getting closer and closer PlayStation 5 ma Sony does not seem at all willing to abandon the development of PlayStation 4, continuing to release system updates aimed at improving the stability of the software and introducing new features. This is the case of the8.00 update, being released starting today and that, based on what is reported on the official blog PlayStation, adds several novelties to the long-lived console of the Japanese giant.

In particular, the innovations concern the Party, the Messages, the avatar and content filters but other features such as, for example, the two-step verification, have received important improvements. Below is the complete list of improvements brought as a dowry by the new system update, based on what is reported directly by Sony.

    Updates to Party and Messages
Following this update, Parties and Messages will be more closely linked and the user interface will change. Both apps will use the same "Groups" of players for Party voice chats and message exchanges, instead of having to set up different groups in the two apps. You can now start a chat in the Party or send a message to the group you previously chatted with on PS4, as well as on PS5 once available.

    New avatars
We are expanding the collection of preset avatars that players can show on their profile. A new set of avatars from your favorite games will be available, including Bloodborne, Journey, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, The Last of Us Part II, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and many more.

Mute all microphones from the Quick Menu
We've added the “Mute All Microphones” option to the Quick Menu, so you can easily mute microphones while playing.

Easier and more flexible content filtering
In the Content Filter we have merged "Communication with other players" and "Viewing content created by other players" into a single setting ("Communication and user generated content") that covers both communication and UGC sharing. This gives parents a feature that is easier to understand and apply to their children. Additionally, children can send parents a request to use the communication features in specific games. When a child submits this request, the parent receives an email notification and can choose to apply an exception for that game allowing the child to use its UGC communications and features. In this way, parents and children can enjoy greater flexibility.

    Improved 2-Step Verification
The 2-Step Verification (2SV) feature on PS4 will be enhanced to support third-party authentication apps as an option during the 2SV activation and login process on PS4, mobile and web.

Removal of Event Creation and Private Community Creation
After version 8.00, it will no longer be possible to create Events or access existing events created by other users. Additionally, the ability to create private communities via the Community app for PS4 will be removed. If you already have private communities, you can continue to access them.

Updates to the Remote Play app on mobile devices and PCs
When version 8.00 is released, the name of the existing PS4 Remote Play app for mobile (iOS / Android), Windows PC and Mac will change to PS Remote Play and the option to connect to PS5 will be added. In order to access the feature, you will need to log into PSN from your PS5, so wait for the PS5 launch in November!

As already mentioned, the update is in release phase so check availability directly through the appropriate menu, present in the system settings of PlayStation 4.
