Platinum Games: Hideki Kamiya explains the link between the company and Tencent

As we learned at the beginning of the year, the software house Platinum Games (Bayonetta; The Wonderful 101; Astral Chain) has struck a deal with the Chinese giant Tencent which sees the latter having entered the company after the acquisition of 20% of the shares. After a few months, Hideki Kamiya wanted to release a tweet where he explains and reassures the fans who had expressed some discontent in recent times.

In fact, in recent years, Platinum Games has always expressed an interest in become autonomous and to depend only on itself, a statement that however does not match this latest corporate move, flaring up in users some "fears" about the possibility of seeing the software house being purchased by the Chinese giant. Kamiya however, he specified that the type of agreement that binds them is exclusively of an economic nature, and that Platinum Games will never be employed by Tencent.

What distinguished this thought was the usual modus operandi of the eclectic developer, establishing a sort of question and answer dialogue between him and Chinese society:

“This thing might be useless no matter how many times I explain it but just in case, our relationship with Tencent looks something like this:

Tencent: We will help you with some funds. Under the contract we will have no influence on the business, so use our money freely to create a good Platinum IP.

    Platinum Games: Okay.

Tencent: In return, if you make a good game and want to bring it to your smartphone, please give us priority for the license.

    Platinum Games: Okay. "
