Phil Spencer believes 8K will not become a video game standard

The world of the video game industry is based on several truly pivotal figures and, without a shadow of a doubt, Phil Spencer he is one of the most important exponents of the world scene. Not just because it is the head of the Xbox division but also because - often and willingly - his statements have proved to be interesting and worthy of attention. And his latest statements regarding the developments of technology in the gaming field could make some insiders discuss.

In particular, Phil Spencer raised a question about the future adoption of the resolution 8K in the field of video games. During an interview with colleagues of Wired, Spencer has in fact stated that, in his view, this resolution is an aspirational technology since, at present, the display capabilities of the devices are not yet able to support it at mainstream level. For this reason, the head of Xbox has several qualms about considering 8K resolution as a future standard in video games, despite Xbox Series X support it as an output in some content. Also Liz Hamren, chief of Xbox engineers, agrees with what Spencer said. Hamren argues that not that many people have 4K TVs, unlike what triple A title publishers might believe.

Spencer also admitted that his way of being a gamer has changed profoundly over the years:

Much of my experience as a gamer 10, 20 years ago was dictated by the device I was playing on. Today I'm pushing for a reality where the device doesn't dictate what I can do: I want to bring my experience to any device, be it a PC, my phone or a big console.

This statement only underlines how important it is for Phil Spencer to have created a service like theXbox Game Pass, which allows you to play on consoles, PC and, thanks to Project xCloud, even on mobile devices.
