Over the past few hours, Netflix e Shondaland, the production company founded by Shonda Rhimes, have officially announced an unexpected collaboration designed to launch new exclusive TV series on the well-known streaming platform that has been able to conquer millions of users all over the world. Shonda Rhimes commented on the event stating:
"I wanted the new Shondaland to be a place to bring to life more and more of the stories we love to tell, where my colleagues with extraordinary creative talent could work at their best and thus make their best works and where all of us, as a team , we could arrive at the office every day full of enthusiasm. Ted Sarandos (Netflix Chief Content Officer) and Cindy Holland (Netflix VP Original Content) and all the Netflix people we're working with are incredible partners to make a project like this one. This is Shondaland 2.0. "
Also Betsy Beers took advantage of the opportunity to state:
“From the Regency age in England to modern day Manhattan, we at Shondaland have a fantastic opportunity to explore new worlds and tell these stories in different ways. We are very fortunate to work with such an inspiring group of talent, including our incredible Netflix creative team. I couldn't be more excited! "
Below you can see the list of projects that will debut exclusively on Netflix (all titles are still provisional):
- Shonda Thimes project (Untitled): Based on the New York Magazine article "How Anna Delvey Fooled New York Party Goers", the series will tell the case of the false heiress who, with great cunning and through a complicated system based on the ostentation of a non-existent wealth, has managed to deceive New Yorkers. Manhattan is the place to make new friends, but is she the embodiment of the American dream or is she New York's biggest scammer?
- Bridgerton Project (Untitled): Based on Julia Quinn's best-selling novels, this feminist-flavored love story set in England, during the Regency Age, will unveil the glittering, rich, sensual, painful, funny and sometimes lonely lives of women and men in London's high society marriage market through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family.
- The Warmth of Other Suns: Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name Isabel Wilkerson, this groundbreaking series chronicles the decades-long migration of African Americans fleeing the Jim Crow-ruled south in search of a better life in the North and West of the United States between 1916 and 1970.
- Pico & Sepulveda: set in the 40s, against the surreal and sensual backdrop of the then Mexican state of California, Pico & Sepulveda tells the end of an idyllic era, as American forces threatened violence and war on the border to try to seize this land.
- Reset: My Fight for Inclusion and Lasting Change: Netflix and Shondaland have bought the rights to Ellen Pao's extraordinary autobiography, which chronicles her life and career, including the lawsuit she filed against her employer, which sparked massive media attention and shocked the public. Silicon Valley male chauvinist and anticipated the Time's Up movement
- The Residence: Netflix and Shondaland have bought the rights to Andersen Brower's book, The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, which offers an accurate analysis of the White House from inside, through the eyes of one of the residence's employees.
- Sunshine Scouts: In this dark humor comedy with half-hour episodes, an apocalyptic disaster spares a group of girls left in a summer camp, who will have to muster up their courage and use all their skills to survive and to make sure that what they remains of humanity comply with the laws of Sunshine Scout.
- Hot Chocolate Nutcracker: This documentary will take us behind the scenes of the award-winning Debbie Allen Dance Academy, which recreates the classic Nutcracker ballet in a new guise. This contemporary version, featuring dancers of all ages and styles, has cemented Debbie Allen's reputation as one of the most important figures in dance.
