Morbius: the film with Jared Leto has been postponed again

La Sony has again postponed the theatrical release of Morbius, cinecomic starring Jared Leto. The film, which has already suffered numerous delays during the crisis of the COVID-19, was originally scheduled to debut on March 19. Now, however, the film has been postponed and, barring further postponements, it will debut in cinemas on 8 October 2021. Most of the films scheduled for the beginning of 2021 have already been postponed due to the pandemic that has brought the film industry to its knees . However, there are several titles still on the calendar for the first few months of the year, including Cinderella with Camila Cabello, scheduled for the 5 February, The King's Man, scheduled for the 12 March. As for Cinderella, however, it is unlikely that this adaptation will keep its February release date, unless it is released (exclusive or preview) on a streaming service.

Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama e Burk Sharpless. Based on the character of the same name Marvel Comics, the film will focus on a biochemist who becomes a vampire after attempting to cure himself of a rare disease. Leto plays the protagonist Michael Morbius along with a cast that includes Matt Smith, Jared Harris and Tyrese Gibson.

Morbius, the notorious enemy of Spider-Man, comes from the large cast of Marvel characters whose rights belong to Sony. While the films of Tom Holland of the Spider-Man franchise have ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe owned by Disney, Sony is trying to launch its own cinematic universe dedicated to the anti-heroes ofSpiderman, including the aforementioned Morbius e Venom, the alien symbiote played by Tom Hardy. In this sense it has already been announced Venom: Let There Be Carnage, a sequel to the film's 2018 which should be released on June 25, 2021, even if the postponement of Morbius could create yet another domino effect of postponements in that of Hollywood.
