    Mobius Final Fantasy - Review

Finally, more than a year after its release on the Japanese market, Mobius Final Fantasy has finally arrived in the West as well. The game has great graphics and is one of the most ambitious phone and tablet titles for Square Enix. The title takes up the classicism of turn-based combat with a splash of new fast and dynamic battle systems. Throw in a fascinating storyline, too, and you'll have a perfect mix always at your fingertips. Could the multimedia work really mark a new era for RPGs on mobile devices? Let's go and see it together.

    A rude awakening

In the game you take on the role of the young Wol, whose name coincides with that of an ancient prophecy. The protagonist woke up in a world called Palamencia in the middle of a tough battle. The boy has lost his memory as well as the other men present, all together they are called Blankers. The Earth is under attack from Chaos but among these soldiers hides the true Warrior of the Light, the only one with a power large enough to defeat the dark menace. The problem is that in this war they all have the same name and desire as the protagonist. How to determine who is the true warrior of the light? Simple, fighting against the armies of the enemies and, only when one man is alive, he will have earned the right to face the god of darkness. In the game you will be accompanied by the Moguri Mog, the spirit Echo and with the help of Princess Sarah Lotte Cornelia your adventure can begin. Having a clear plot judgment in mind is really difficult as the game is divided into episodes and, for the moment, only two are available. At the most thanks to this beginning we can get a vague idea in which direction it will proceed, therefore, for what little we have seen, we can tell you that the whole experience is divided between a long series of fights divided by small videos with very close shots and , very often, especially in the dialogues between half-length characters, so as to immerse the player even more in the experience, especially if the latter is equipped with a mobile device with a fairly large screen size. Unfortunately, in these scenes it is not possible to glimpse a great personality of the characters since the latter tend to remain a bit too cold and limiting oneself to a few lines is not enough to excel.

IThe game takes full advantage of a turn-based combat system by implementing quick moves on it that vaguely resemble those of Final Fantasy XIII. It all starts with the classic tutorial that explains the various mechanics. Your character will initially only be able to attack three times and this will be possible by simply pressing your finger on the screen. Every time you attack or get hit you will recharge your energy, this will be useful for exploiting the magic. Here we come to one of the main maneuvers of the entire title since, thanks to them, it will be possible to drastically overturn the results of the clashes. Let's go to see more in detail. Each enemy, next to his life bar, it will have the symbol of the element that distinguishes it. These will be: Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Light, Darkness and Crystal. These will intertwine with each other so as to allow the player to launch the right attack for any kind of opponent. Each spell will have a special box that will be filled by defeating the monsters of that element. Each element, in addition to abilities that damage enemies, also has abilities to protect your avatar, although the latter can only be used once in the entire game. Each time you hit an enemy of a certain type, it will release an element sphere. You will need these to increase the level of the cards. The opponents, under the line that corresponds to the energy, will have the Brake bar. This was first introduced in Final Fantasy XIII and fans of the saga now know it well. By hitting your enemy the bar will begin to drop until it reaches zero and, once emptied, you can hit the monsters with extreme ease as they will be completely defenseless. After the battle is over, the game will offer you chests to open, containing items to exploit. In addition to this, the classic summary screen will be visible where you will be shown your score, the experience points obtained, the game currency called the cards in your deck. You will find the job system, that is the possibility to change the class of the protagonist. In each role played by the character there will still be a very destructive special blow

    It's time to take stock

Unfortunately, the difficulty of the game at a certain point rises dramatically and card fusion mechanisms will require a lot of resources. For less assiduous players it will be difficult to complete the work also because the risk of pay-to-win is really around the corner but, with a little training, this can be overcome. The title focuses solely and exclusively on fights so if you are looking for great settings you are doing the wrong work. With the graphic level reached, it was possible to dare something more instead of repetitive scenarios without expressiveness. The title is divided into missions that will unlock as you complete the previous ones. Before each quest a short screen will open where you will be given some small information including: the number of battles present, how much energy will be required to start the mission, the difficulty level of the latter, the element of the boss and finally your deck. After pressing the button to start the game, the game will make you join a partner of your choice. This will give you unique skills that are useful during battles.
