Michael Pachter: "I don't think all next-gen games will cost 80 euros"

    Michael Pachter:

Several publishers have decided, in view of the debut of the next generation consoles of Sony e Microsoft products, to raise the prices of some of their upcoming upcoming games. Take-Two was the first to take "the plunge" with NBA 2K21, only to be followed closely by Activision (With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War) and by Sony itself, confirming that several first-party titles (including Demon's Souls Remake, AllStars Destruction e Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition) could arrive on the shelves in our trusted stores at a price of 80 €, seeing an increase (compared to the current PS4 games) of 10 €.

Several experts in the sector argue that the now imminent next-gen videogame will be characterized by this "slight" increase, even if it is not of the same opinion. Michael Pachter, well-known analyst of the Wedbush Securities. During a recent interview with GamingBolt, Pachter suggested that individual cases of price increases need not necessarily indicate the start of a "new" trend. We report in detail what has been declared:

It depends on what the recommended price of the games available for a given console will be. Microsoft has been quite clear with Smart Delivery, reiterating that they will guarantee free updates for current-generation titles. So, if this feature is really free, unless the Redmond house increases the price of the games on Xbox One, from 70 to 80 €, I don't think they will sell them for 80 €. From them the next-gen titles will continue to cost € 70.

I think 2K will set the price at € 80 to "shock" their customers. I can understand that it is worth it, that inflation is important and that the prices of titles have been rising steadily for years, but the fact remains that if Sony and Microsoft do not "suggest" that the recommended price for the next generation of gaming is of $ 80, users will think third-party publishers are greedy to ask for an extra $ 10 for their games.

I think that at the moment the editors are still studying the strategy to be adopted, and Sony's choice to place Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales at € 60 and Demon's Souls Remake at € 80 did not help. Therefore, I repeat that not all games will cost this amount.

Waiting to find out how the story will evolve, and if Michael Pachter is right, we remind you that Xbox Series X e Series S the next will debut 10st November (at the price of 499,99 € e 299,99 €), while PlayStation 5 e PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will be available for purchase from November 19 2020, respectively at the cost of 499,99 € e 399,99 €.
