Metal Gear comes to life in a fan's animated short

The animator Mitchell Hammond wanted to engage in the creation of a tribute to the first chapter of the saga Metal Gear that made many dream, giving birth to N313. As few may know, it is not Metal Gear Solid the first adventure he sees as the protagonist Solid Snake, but it is Metal Gear, 1987 title by Konami, in which it is possible to see the beginnings of what would become the symbolic saga created by Hideo Kojima.

Metal Gear was initially released only for MSX2, arriving then also on the systems Nintendo, Commodore 64, up to the present day when it is possible play it on PC via GOG, available for € 5,99 from September of last 2020. Already from this first title it is possible to notice some particular traits that today we know are characteristic of Kojima, but that at the time no one knew yet. In fact, it was surprising how the game encouraged the player to use stealth much more rather than direct confrontation with the enemy, the presence of greater attention to the stories of the characters and the classic peculiarities of American action films, difficult to imagine. in a Japanese game.

Mitchell Hammond, passionate about the series since this first title, has decided to pay homage to the saga with the creation of this animated short film, which began in 2014. In the interview that Mitchell released for the Spanish site Suede, the animator presented the events he intends to narrate in his short N313, also briefly explaining how he wants to make them happen.

The first minute or so will be used to set the story, followed by a shortened sequence of previous moments in the game. Once Solid Snake encounters imprisoned Gray Fox and reveals the creation and purpose of the Metal Gear TX-55, the animation will switch to a montage showing various obstacles and enemies within Outer Heaven. The final section, like the beginning, will focus on a more conventional narrative with a final scene to close it all. And as Snake would say, “Did I keep you waiting? Get used to it. "

Another important detail that the animator wanted to specify is theabsence of any dialogue in the short film, explaining that “There is no part of the video where the presence of a dialogue benefits what I am trying to show”, wanting to make his animated film usable in the same way to anyone who speaks any language, or none.

At the moment Mitchell has not yet announced a date in which it will be possible to see the short N313, so we look forward to having news in the future, looking forward to being able to relive the adventures of Metal Gear and review some of the most iconic characters created by Kojima.
