"Insufficient storage space" on Android: how to solve?

Do you have all the free space on your SD card, yet your Android device refuses to download applications due to full memory? We explain why it happens and how to fix it! The “Insufficient Storage Space” message may seem out of place when you have all the space you need on your Android smartphone or tablet, but the device has its reasons.

When you download an application, some data must necessarily be installed in the phone's internal memory. If this storage space is full, you will not be able to download the application you want, even if your external (SD) card is empty!

Insufficient RAM memory

Some smartphones of a certain age or entry level have 1GB of RAM or even less than 512MB. That is why, if you use a heavy application or many different applications in multitasking, your phone may freeze.

One tip is to keep an eye on the amount of RAM your applications consume and close those that don't need to be constantly open. To do this, go to settings> apps. Go to each of them and click on "clear cache" and / or "clear data".

Another thing that works to free up RAM space is to shut down any processes you have in the background. From the Home screen, click the square button to view all open applications that use RAM. You just have to close the ones you don't need.

Insufficient storage space

Many terminals are low on memory and the system takes up so much space that it leaves only a few bytes of free space. It is important to remember that even if the terminal is released with 16, 32 or 64 GB, in reality the internal memory left free is always less.

How to solve this problem? Simply: put some order in your internal memory! If you absolutely want to keep everything, choose to install whatever you can (music, movies, photos, documents…) on your SD card.

To make room on the internal storage, think of cloud solutions (Google Drive, Dropbox and others) or applications like Clean Master that will do all the work for you. For music, think of music streaming services like Spotify or Deezer.

Keep in mind, however, that it is not always easy to transfer data to the SD card, the simplest way is to become a root user so that you are completely free. You can also delete unnecessary applications pre-installed on your device.

Due to the partitions in the internal memory, although space is available, it is reserved for system files and applications. It is best not to use this space as this can cause serious errors.

Finally, the last solution is to reset the device to factory settings - you will gain space and speed!
