Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God - Review, A New Deity in Olympus

We recently tried Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God, the first DLC dedicated to the latest work developed by Ubisoft quebec. The main title (of which if you are interested in our opinion you can read the review here) was a welcome surprise, for this reason we were waiting for the first additional content with a lot of anxiety. In fact, as soon as the game was over, we wondered what other aspects of Greek mythology we could discover. We are finally there, and after just over a month from the release of the base game we are back in the role of Fenyx, this time no longer intent on saving the world but on finding his place in Olympus.

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God - Review, A New Deity in OlympusA brief review

We had left Fenyx after the liberation of the gods and the defeat of Typhoon. Having finally released the Golden Island and having earned a place in the Greek pantheon, it is time for our hero to return to his true home. It won't be that easy being a god is hard work and saving the world is not enough. A god, in fact, must know how to amaze, have the strength, reveal the mysteries incomprehensible to man and much more. To assert himself, the protagonist will have to face trials, so as to prove himself worthy in the eyes of other deities. Although the narrative incipit, as well as in the main game, does not shine with originality, everything seemed in line and well executed. In fact, the epic tones remain worthy of an odyssey, the one that in this case will feed the legend of Fenyx.

Although the narrative does not represent a cornerstone of Immortals Fenyx Rising, it is fair to take into consideration how this is only and exclusively accompanying, entertaining the player with the humor we have come to know in the main title. The videogame differs from the basic experience only in its playful form, but as regards the plot you will soon realize that the product highlights further aspects of the characters we have already known.

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God - Review, A New Deity in OlympusA new game

While Fenyx Rising: A New God is virtually identical in Immortals mechanics, there are minor tweaks that change the experience. The DLC differs from the exploratory part so marked in the base game, preferring a structure more linked to the enigmas already seen in Tartarus. In fact, the additional content will put you mainly in front of riddles, slowly seasoned by fights that give an important change of pace to the experience. To encourage the choice of not wanting to concentrate everything on the combat system, there is also the fact that the potions, so fundamental to get to defeat Typhon, in A New God will not be there, small clue that immediately shows us that the clashes will not be so particularly marked. When the enemies arrive, you will not simply have to kill them, but specific challenges will be activated that you will have to complete to move forward. In fact, since your job will be to prove yourself worthy, the already known gods will freak you out with their evidence.

Ubisoft, taking advantage of some insights already had in the base game, has managed to differentiate these puzzles very well, in fact you will rarely seem to repeat the same section and, obviously, the trials of each god will have their own peculiarities, with an ever increasing level of difficulty. In some cases you will really find yourself banging your head, but rest assured because the solution is always within your reach: the trials will make you use Fenyx's abilities like never before, which we are sure will leave all players pleasantly surprised. However, the heaviness of a playful structure made mainly of puzzles in the long run makes itself felt, leading to the detachment of those who, on the other hand, need tighter and less reasoned rhythms. The good thing, however, is that the base game has included a mission that gives you the experience of the DLC in the form of a demo. This is already available on all platforms for free.

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God - Review, A New Deity in OlympusIn short words

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God is certainly an experience that partially deviates from the base game, offering something different and less stressful in terms of energy. However, the riddles can be tough for some players, and the fighting is not always enough to give the right change of pace. However, the incredible effort in diversifying the environmental puzzles and the magnificent level design that characterizes the tests is evident, and it is remarkable how Ubisoft Quebec has managed to propose something different but at the same time familiar. Furthermore, to access the additional content you will not necessarily have to have finished the basic adventure, since the entire package can be played as a stand alone and will immediately give you a Fenyx already fully upgraded.

In conclusion in DLC A New God is really a well-packaged product, which will guarantee its users also a fair longevity and a few hours of carefree fun. The story of Fenyx continues to amaze us positively, we are extremely happy that Ubisoft has this IP as an arrow in its quiver, because we are sure that in the future we will have a chance to deal with it again. For now, let's enjoy this additional content, but we anticipate that we already can't wait to find out what surprises the next DLC will hold.
