If you like to customize your Samsung Galaxy A72 and have complete control over its firmware, the first thing you should do is to root it. You can root Samsung Galaxy A72 using Magisk, the most popular rooting tool for Android phones. Magisk enables root and allows you to completely customize the phone system.

Also, you can use the modules with the help of Magisk Manager. There are several modules that serve different purposes that you can freely download and enable. Samsung continues to make it difficult for users to root their devices. For example, custom binaries cannot be flashed by default.

You must first unlock the bootloader, which will erase all data. KNOX is also something to keep in mind. The KNOX counter is triggered when custom binary files are displayed. This avoids losing the warranty in some countries.

Below you have a detailed tutorial on how to root your Samsung Galaxy A72. You will need to unlock the bootloader, patch the firmware and install Magisk. If you get stuck in any of the tutorial steps, leave a comment below and we'll help you.

How to root Samsung Galaxy A72 with Magisk

Magisk installation on your phone takes place in three steps. The first step is to unlock the bootloader and have it accept unofficial images, the second step is to patch the firmware and install it via Odin, and the last step is to successfully boot the phone with Magisk installed.

WarningBefore moving on with the tutorial below, please read all the warnings below. Do not proceed if you do not want KNOX to be activated or if you do not want your data to be deleted. We are not responsible for any problems with your phone.
    • This process will wipe your phone. When you unlock the bootloader for the first time to install Magisk, a complete data wipe will be performed. Please backup your data before continuing, otherwise you will lose all data.
    • Installing Magisk on your Samsung Galaxy A72 will activate KNOX. This is an indicator that shows whether the firmware has been tampered with or not. Some stores will refuse warranty service if KNOX trips.

    Prerequisites

    • Make sure your phone has at least 60% full battery. This ensures that the phone does not accidentally turn off during the process.
    • Make a full backup of the data on your phone. The following process involves unlocking the bootloader, which will delete everything on the phone.
    • Download and install the correct USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy A72. If you don't have the correct drivers, your computer won't recognize your phone.

Step 1: Unlock the Samsung Galaxy A72 Bootloader

Samsung has introduced a new service called VaultKeeper. This means that you will not be able to flash custom binaries or unofficial partitions unless VaultKeeper allows it. Consequently, you need to unlock the bootloader before proceeding to the next step. Follow this article to find out how to unlock bootloader on Samsung Galaxy A72.

Step 2: Patch the firmware with Magisk

There are two methods for patching the firmware. It depends on your phone's Ramdisk information.

    1. Download the latest stock firmware for your Samsung Galaxy A72. Follow our detailed guide on how to download and install stock firmware on Samsung Galaxy A72.
    2. After downloading the firmware, extract the firmware. You will see five files.
    3. Extract the file AP .tar . The file name starts with AP and ends with .tar.md5 (AP_ [device_model_sw_ver] .tar.md5).
    4. Download and install the latest Magisk Manager APK. Open the app and check the Ramdisk information. If it says:
      • Ramdisk: Yes
        1. Out of the extracted files, find boot.img.lz4 from and create a tar archive (you can use 7-ZIP).
        2. Transfer the boot file stored in the phone's internal memory.
        3. Open Magisk Manager and go to Install> Install> Select and apply patch a un file. (Make sure recovery mode is off.).
      • Ramdisk: No
        1. Out of the extracted files, find recovery.img.lz4 from and create a tar archive (you can use 7-ZIP).
        2. Transfer the boot file stored in the phone's internal memory.
        3. Open Magisk Manager and go to Install> Install> Select and apply patch a un file. (Make sure recovery mode is on.).

    Step 3: patched Magisk image

    1. Browse the memory and select the archived image file. The image will be patched and the new version will be found in Internal Storage / Downloads / magisk_patched.tar.
    2. Transfer the patched file to your computer.
    3. Turn off the phone and start the phone in download mode.
    4. On Odin, click AP and select the patched .tar file. Uncheck "Automatic restart”And click install.
    5. The tool will flash Magisk on your Samsung Galaxy A72.

Now that you have Magisk installed on your Samsung Galaxy A72, you can later update Magisk directly from the Magisk Manager app. If you want to update to another firmware version, also patch it via Magisk Manager, then update it. With Magisk you can now enjoy all the benefits of root plus Magisk's module system.
