Streaming Sticks require Wi-Fi to be able to play multimedia content. Without that, the Fire TV Stick or any other streaming device is practically useless. Another thing that is important to the Fire TV is its remote. Since it does not feature the physical buttons found on the traditional set top box, the remote control also plays an important role.

Whether you want to browse the Fire TV Stick, play a video or change settings, including Wi-Fi, everything is possible only with the remote. What happens if the remote control is lost? How are you going to change Wi-Fi without it?

Are you in a similar situation? Don't worry, we're here to help. We offer you some ways to change the Wi-Fi network on Fire TV Stick without its remote.

    Use the Fire TV app

If your remote isn't handy or you've lost it, you might think it's time to buy a new remote or even Fire TV Stick. However, this is not the case for you, you can control Fire TV with its apps available on Android and iOS. The only requirement is to share the same Wi-Fi network.

So, if you still have access to the old Wi-Fi and want to change the Wi-Fi on Fire TV without remote, you need to use the app.

Install the app from the link given below. Once installed, the Fire TV will show up in the app. Touch it.

    • Download the Fire TV app on Android
    • Download the Fire TV app on iOS

Now use the app to navigate the Fire TV Stick. Go to Settings> Network. Here connect to a different network.

SUGGESTION: if the network is not visible, click See all networks.

The previous method required you to be on the same Wi-Fi network. What if you travel and you have forgotten your remote at home? Is the Fire TV Stick unusable? No. You can still check it using these three methods.

Here's what to do if the Amazon Fire TV Stick stops working

Trick IT with an identical Hotspot

When you are in a hotel or place where you have a different Wi-Fi network and the Fire TV remote is not available, you can't change the Wi-Fi even with the app as it is registered with the old one Wifi.

So the trick is to set up the Fire TV Stick and the app on the same network. Here we will combine the method we have seen above with a new trick.

For this, we'll connect the Fire TV Stick to a new Wi-Fi with the same SSID and password as the old network. This will make it believe it is the old network and it will connect automatically. You can then use the app to change the Wi-Fi.

Here are the steps in detail:

NOTE: Two telephones are required for this procedure.

1 pass: With the first phone, you need to create a hotspot network with the same Wi-Fi credentials as the previous network registered with the Fire TV Stick.

Step 2: turn on the TV. Fire TV will now connect to the hotspot.

Step 3: Install the Fire TV app on the second phone and connect it to the newly created hotspot.

Step 4: Now that the Fire TV and the app are on the same Wi-Fi, use the Fire TV app to go to Settings> Network to update Wi-Fi.

Step 5: After you have connected Fire TV to the new Wi-Fi network, turn off the hotspot on your phone. Then connect the first phone to the new Wi-Fi network and use the Fire TV app to control and navigate the Fire TV Stick.

    Use another Fire TV remote

If your friend or family member has a Fire TV Stick, you can use the remote to change the Wi-Fi. All you need to do is pair the remote by pressing the Home button for 20-40 seconds until the pairing confirmation message appears.

Once it has been successfully paired, change the Wi-Fi as mentioned earlier. Then use the app to navigate the Fire TV Stick without the remote.

    Use the TV remote

Many users do not know that they can control the Fire TV Stick with the TV remote and the TV with the Fire TV Stick Remote. If you are surprised to know, it satisfies HDMI-CEC functionality. The main idea behind this feature is to allow users to control their connected TV and HDMI devices with a single remote control.

So, if your TV supports HDMI-CEC, you can use its regular remote to control the Fire TV Stick and change the Wi-Fi. For this, first, you need to enable the HDMI-CEC setting on your TV. Since brands call the function different names and it appears in different places, check your TV manual to find the settings.

Bonus tip: connect to the hidden Wi-Fi network

Many use a hidden Wi-Fi network to connect their devices. To connect the Fire TV Stick to such a network, go to Settings> Network. Here, scroll down and click Join Other Network. Then type in the details of the network.

SUGGESTION: you can use the Fire TV app to type easily using your phone.

It is true that the importance of a thing is understood only when it is lost. Losing a remote control or forgetting it at home can be quite painful. Fortunately, you can use the methods described above to control the Fire TV Stick without a remote.
