Netflix is, without a doubt, the most popular video on demand streaming service available right now (excluding YouTube, of course). It has helped us change the way we watch video content, binge-watch TV shows, and breathe new life into time-forgotten low-level B-movies.

Packages start at $ 8,99 per month, going up to $ 15,99 per month if you want Ultra HD footage and multiple accounts per subscription. Regardless of which package you choose, you will have access to Netflix.

The best alternatives to Netflix

However, you may not feel like keeping Netflix after your one-month free trial runs its course. Many subscription services hide unsubscribe buttons deep within their settings, but with Netflix it's surprisingly easy to deactivate your subscription.

If you want to cancel Netflix because you feel you've seen all the good content it has to offer, here's how you can cancel your account.

How to deactivate Netflix from the browser

  1. Log into your Netflix account and select your profile icon, then click "My Account".
  2. On the "My Account" page, you should now be able to see everything about your account, including plan details, settings and playback preferences. Click "Unsubscribe" under "Subscription and Billing" to unsubscribe.
  3. You will now be directed to a confirmation page to confirm subscription termination. Note: If you are at the cheapest tier when you signed up for Netflix in advance, you will pay the highest rate upon your return.

How to cancel Netflix subscription: Android

  1. To delete your Netflix account on an Android phone or tablet you will need to visit the web browser. Open the Netflix application on your Android and tap the profile icon in the top right corner.
  2. Tap Account and choose the web browser you want to use to unsubscribe.
  3. From here, use the same steps you used above to unsubscribe.

How to delete your Netflix account: iOS

IPhone and iPad users can bypass Netflix account altogether. Go directly to Safari or Chrome and visit your Netflix account page. From here you should be able to use the desktop version of Netflix to cancel your subscription.

  1. Tap the three vertical lines in the top right corner and tap "Account".
  2. Scroll down the page and tap "Cancel subscription"
  3. Confirm the cancellation

When you initiate the cancellation, you can still access Netflix content up to the billing date. To check your billing date, go to your Account Settings and look under “Subscription”. The next billing date will be indicated.

You should receive a cancellation email from Netflix. Check your email to make sure you are not being charged for Netflix again.

Cancel Netflix subscription if billed through another service

It's not uncommon to sign up for Netflix through Amazon, iTunes, your ISP, or even another service. Unfortunately, if you signed up through one of these services, you can't cancel directly through Netflix. This is because your account is actually linked to another service.

For those who signed up using iTunes, you can cancel by opening the Settings app on their iPhone. At the top, tap your Apple ID, then tap Subscriptions. From here, locate your Netflix subscription and cancel it.

Amazon subscribers can visit the Subscriptions and Subscriptions page to cancel the Netflix service. Click the Advanced Controls option and choose the option to cancel.

Canceling Netflix via Google Play is also simple. All you have to do is open the Google Play Store on your Android device and click on the three-line menu in the upper left corner. Tap Subscriptions and tap Netflix. Select the option to cancel and follow the instructions.

If you are billed through an ISP such as Comcast Xfinity, please visit your Netflix account page for further instructions on how to cancel. Comcast in particular once offered the service for free, so you may not be paying for the service at all.

You can also log into your ISP account to check subscriptions. This is the same if you are billed through your mobile operator.

How to cancel Netflix if your account has been hacked

Netflix users around the world have come across the unfortunate internet pirates. If your account has been hacked and your login information has changed, you may be wondering what to do. You can't log in to cancel your account, so how can you recover your account or stop billing?

Assuming you're not paying for Netflix through a third-party service, you'll need help logging in. Go to the Netflix login page and click the "Need Help" button.

Netflix will ask what login information you have and your billing method on file. Once you have provided this information, the support team will help you get your account back so you can cancel it. We have more information on how to recover your account here.

Downgrade your plan

If you're here because you want to save, you may not be ready to lose access to some of your favorite shows and movies. If so, you don't need to cancel the plan to save some money.

Unless you have the lowest tier plan, you can change your subscription and save costs.

Following the same steps as above, simply tap on your current plan. From here, tap "Change plan" and select the one you want to continue with (in this case it would be the basic plan). Click on the option to continue.

You will receive a confirmation email once you change your plan. Please note that the same billing will be applied as a cancellation, which means that you will continue to have access to your current plan until the billing date. Thereafter, you will continue to bill, but at the new cost and you will receive the new features.

Frequently asked questions about disabling Netflix

If you have more questions about canceling Netflix membership, we've got you covered below.

I canceled my subscription, but I still received the invoice. What is happening?

Netflix cancellations take effect on the next billing cycle. This means that if you are charged on the 1st of the following month, but cancel on the 15th, you will still have access to all Netflix content up to the first.

Unfortunately, there can be delays in canceling, which means that if you cancel your subscription within a day or two of the renewal date, you may see another charge.

After unsubscribing, check that you have successfully completed the unsubscribe by checking your email. You should receive a confirmation email. If you haven't received one, log into Netflix and verify that your subscription expires (a warning will be displayed).

Finally, if you are sure that you have deleted your account in time and you have deleted the correct account (you may have more than one), contact Netflix support for assistance. Netflix's official stance on refunds is that they don't offer them, but if you've been billed incorrectly, it's worth contacting to get your money back.

I don't see the option to cancel under my profile. Why not?

If you've followed the steps above but don't see a cancellation option, it's because you're being charged for another service. If you're not sure which one, visit your Netflix account page and click on the link where your billing information should be. This will guide you through the cancellation process for setting up your individual account.

Can I reactivate my account?

Yes. Netflix will allow you to reactivate your account for up to 10 months. If you do this within this period, your viewing history and everything will remain intact. If you try to cancel after this period, you will need to open a new account.

Can i pause my account?

Suspending a subscription allows users to suspend payments and the service for a certain period. At the moment, not everyone has the option to pause their accounts. Netflix confirmed in July 2021 that it is testing the feature. Fortunately, if you resume your account before the tenth billing period, you can resume the service as before.
