Hitman 3 - Preview, Closing of Accounts is Coming

There are very few titles that have managed not only to maintain their identity, but that have also had the opportunity to implement features without distorting the concept of origin, and Hitman falls among these. Born in the early 2000s, the game already boasted a fantastic freedom of action: during those years it was unthinkable, in fact, the idea of a game that was capable of allowing multiple paths and multiple ways to complete an objective, but Hitman he succeeded. And if this goal was almost always to kill someone on commission, then everything took on a different taste. Over the years the brand has evolved without ever forgetting the past: we tested games with more features, titles dedicated more to the plot (which was present in the former but was not the driving force at all), and finally Hitman 3, the one that will conclude the trilogy on January 20 World of Assassination.

So if we go to see the chapters of the brand released, after the first 4 (which also include Contracts, a sort of "Best of") that led to the height of the majesty of the sandbox management of missions with Blood Money, IO Interactive tried to change course with a more “story-driven” game like Hitman: Absolution, great chapter of the series which, however, limited the player in some situations. The choice of Hitman (the sixth episode is called this, almost as if to mark a sort of soft reboot) was therefore to give Blood Money a management again, but this time expanding everything to the maximum: some game maps in fact manage to count countless NPCs, all with their own routines and actions to perform. We got to try this Hitman 3 a bit, and the idea always remains the same: there are few brands that manage to evolve without denaturing themselves, and Hitman is among those.

Space for history

One of the things that immediately catches your eye when you start playing Hitman 3, is how much this time the plot is more important: although the first chapters of the series had a story that served almost as a pretext to advance, this time the hunt undertaken since the first missions of Hitman is tight, and it becomes more and more so, throwing his roots even in themes and topics visited in the original series (let's talk about the pre-Absolution chapters). For the sake of consistency, if a storyline becomes more important, you also need some sort of track that can convey this even while you play. For this reason, in Hitman 3 it immediately seems that the construction of missions is more focused on the advancement of the plot, with reminiscences that allow us to compare it to Absolution but without departing from the canons of trilogy. All this then turns into a truly appreciable compromise: the first time you play the mission, you will have a dedicated opening kinematics (which finally return and remove those static images scenes that they had inserted in 2), and in-game events useful for the advancement of the plot and some tracks that will "force" you to follow a sort of path. Obviously you will still have total freedom of action in completing the objectives, only the first time the ghost of the narrative will be there to guide you a little. If all this could go unnoticed, the camera choices used in some sections of the missions will not do it, real scenic constructions useful to give a bit of spectacularity. Obviously, once a mission is finished, as usual for this series, you can replay it freely, this time choosing practically all the details you want.

Another novelty of this Hitman 3 it concerns the smartphone, an object that our favorite killer will be able to carry with him and which will allow him to perform two functions: take pictures (attention, it's not a photo mode) and unlock electronic locks. In spite of everything, its use is not so important (except in some scene forced by the plot) and perhaps you could opt for something different, but all in all it is nothing so damaging. The contracts, the seasonal contents, the Escalation and missions Sniper Assassin, and they do it in a package that becomes a must for fans of the bar-coded hitman on the nape: Hitman 3 in fact, it will allow you to import all the levels of the first two games (in addition to game progress), complete with special content, particular missions and everything that has been released over the years. Obviously, all this can be enjoyed with the improved game system, which sees many small innovations and many refinements designed to polish the final experience. Obviously, in case you have never landed on the shores of Agent 47, you can buy Passes for the previous two chapters, so as to unlock the locations and missions (and in case you opted for the Goty pass, even special contents). To all this, of course, do not forget that interesting new locations will be added, including Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Dartmoor (England) but also Berlin, Chongqing and more. The mood of the missions we tried, given the particular construction of these and the importance of the plot, reflects some peculiarities that were not so evident in the first two chapters. To give you an example, if the first mission will be the classic infiltration - killing of targets - exfiltration, the second will insert intriguing dynamics that will require a greater analysis of the details, also changing a little the fulcrum around which the gameplay revolves.

What a breathtaking view!

Hitman 3 also offers a new graphic system, polished for the occasion and capable of improving the previous locations. Between reflections, lights and graphic details, each area you visit will show itself in its magnificence, with many small details that will not only be useful trappings to make you drool a little, but real opportunities to be exploited to complete your goal. To all this, finally add the fact that up PlayStation you will be able to play the title in VR (and therefore also the previous locations), moving the focus from the third to the first person and thus allowing you to experience the Agent 47 experience from a new perspective.

In short, Hitman 3 is the non plus ultra of the offer for this stealth game that has been driving us crazy for 20 years now: the improvements seen in the previous chapters return accompanied by new features, a revisited graphics sector and many new features that we will be able to discover when the game comes out ( remember that Hitman 3 will also have Elusive Targets and Escalations). The fact of being able to import the previous missions finally makes this chapter the best from the point of view of the available offer: being able to replay the whole trilogy on a single platform is fantastic, and being able to relive some seasonal missions, or perhaps complete complex contracts, makes it more fun. We have been able to try little of this new chapter, but for now there are all the conditions for a great success: those who in fact loved the system sandbox of Hitman and Hitman 2, here will find bread for their teeth, those who have always tried to follow the plot behind Hitman, this time will find an intertwining that seems to take an intriguing turn.
