Hands On Sniper Elite 4 - Gamescom 2016

During the Gamescom 2016, we had the opportunity to try the new one firsthand Sniper Elite 4. After three waiting titles, a chapter of the brand finally arrives, set in our dear country. The historical period is that of the Second World War, and more precisely during 1943. Those who know history already know what it means. Let's take a closer look at what this intriguing chapter offers us!

In the half hour of gameplay that was granted to us, we have collected enough data on the title, to be called very optimistic. The version we tested was the one on PlayStation 4, while we have not yet had the opportunity to test the title on PC and Xbox One. The concept of the game has obviously remained unchanged: stay undercover for as long as possible, kill enemies from the shadows, and do it with precision. There are also exceptions, such as killing enemies using explosions, collapsing a scaffolding that supports them… or the entire bridge directly. Obviously, the classic kills with "X-rays" cannot be missing, which will let us know which parts of the body we will have pulped with our blow (and also the resulting score).

The controls are more or less the same as we've seen so far, with the ability to aim precisely by holding your breath and zooming, a key to provide cover behind boulders on the walls, and so on. The physics and animations of the melee attacks also seem to have undergone a decent upgrade, making even close eliminations more believable. The most promising leaps forward have been made from a technical point of view, where finally the new one artificial intelligence of the enemies goes to "plug" one of the defects that so much undermined the quality of the last chapters.

Obviously they are not all roses and flowers… in fact graphically, the title could claim more glory. Ok the enlargement of the maps (finally), ok a better freedom of maneuver, but these factors do not justify a non-cutting-edge graphic component, especially with regard to bushes and foliage. It is never nice to see us crouched among these to hide, and to see interpenetration errors with branches that go past us in Casper style. Hopefully this and similar details will be corrected before launch (we're talking about an Alpha version after all). Beyond everything, however, the entirety of the settings is well done, with pleasant glimpses and glimpses.

In any case we can well hope, calculating that already this version of Sniper Elite 4 it is better than the definitive one of its predecessors, and that there is still time to remedy any defects. For us, the fact that the title is set in our home is an indirect incentive to buy. We remind you that Sniper Elite 4 will arrive on our PCs and on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles starting February 14, 2017.
