The videogame future of the famous hero of the night, Batman, we know we are currently in the works although we know practically nothing. At the same time, Gotham Knights has momentarily taken all the attention that derives from it, arousing both amazement for a title designed for multiplayer, but also a bit of discontent or simple perplexity. Presented for the first time at the streaming event DC Fandome, Gotham Knights will still be influenced by the main saga of Arkham. In this chapter that we could consider a sort of spin-off, the player will have to face the dark city by playing the role of Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood e Nightwing.
In the words of Fleur Marty, the executive producer of this new chapter, and Patrick Redding, the creative director, the mission of WB Montreal is to create an engaging, unique, exciting cooperative experience for two players and all this without upsetting the years of work and the excellent result obtained with the main series, indeed, trying to remain faithful as much as possible to the original. However, the entire Gotham City has been redesigned to allow players to be able to move by virtue of cooperation, making everything more intuitive and natural.
We have completely redesigned the combat system so that it works well in co-op. Sure, we're still a brawler, and some of the mechanics won't seem entirely foreign to people who have played and enjoyed the Arkham series, but it's new in many ways. The two-player dynamic fits the Gotham City fantasy and setting. The 'duo' or team-up is such a central feature of the universe that there is a literal shortcut in the comic, animated, film and TV versions. Gotham is a city of alleys and rooftops.
Gotham Knights will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC over the course of 2021. Stay tuned for all the upcoming news.
