Godfall - Preview, all the information available on the next PS5 title

Godfall, as we all know, it was one of the first games to be announced for the next one PS5, due out for now around Christmas this year. Obviously, we do not know if due to this pandemic also the new generation platforms will suffer delays, but until we have more information on this, hope will be the last to die. Returning to us, however, the title obviously does not have a release date and the information about it is still few. However, we are committed to collecting any news related to it, as well to be able to provide you with an overview of what this new Action-RPG will be outgoing, always hypothetically, on PlayStation 5 e PC before the end of the year.

The game, developed by Counterplay Games, will plunge fans into a medieval fantasy world, with a combat system that closely resembles the latest God of War. We know for sure that the work will enjoy both a single player and multiplayer sector, even if we still don't have any particular details for the latter. Without further ado, here's everything we know about the new Godfall.

What to expect from the story

Although we do not have very succulent information on the plot, the Game Director Godfall Keith Lee gave a recent interview where he talked about the inspirations behind the creation of the world of Godfall, and how the storyline was adapted to it. The game was inspired by the Isaac Asimov Foundation cycle and the Chronicles of Folgoluce series of novels.. Speaking deeper into the story, Lee revealed a very important premise, which is that the world is divided into several realms: Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit. Players will play one of the latest members of the Order of Knights, with the ultimate goal of averting the apocalypse and saving the planet. Returning to the setting for a second, this will be full of ancient magic and mysticism, a great contrast if you think about the (decidedly more modern) architectural structures that you will find during the adventure.

The knights' armor themselves will also play a central role, although this part hasn't been explored further. However, here we can get there with a simple reasoning: if you can change the sets, we think that, in addition to increasing the mere statistics, there will also be functions related to bonuses or special shots. For now it's still there to say, but basically in many other games objects have this use when combined with gameplay.

A souls-like God of War style

Godfall is inevitably an Action-RPG, but you can see from the first frames how the gameplay winks at well-known titles such as Souls and, above all, the last God of War. To this, however, he combines loot mechanics taken from titles like Destiny or The Division, creating a sort of hybrid that, in actual fact, could work. The clashes take place mainly in third-person hand-to-hand combat, and in the cooperative mode you can play up to a maximum of three heroes. Obviously, the title itself will adjust to the number of characters, going to increase the enemies proposed on the screen. There will be the ability to parry and dodge, with a lot of ability to deflect the blow. The game scenarios will range from the most classic horde to boss fights, but even on this topic we have very little information.

However, always in the same interview, the director talked about the possibility of having remote attacks: these will be limited, especially since each player will have two melee weapons with which to throw themselves into the fights. Obviously there will also be classes, which will still be flexible, so that he can give all fans the chance to create their definitive build. Some inspirations were also taken from Monster Hunter World, therefore you will have to expect a strategic component within the clashes.

Latest information

Godfall made his first appearance during the 2019 Game Awards and, while it still lacks a release date, we know its arrival is expected by the end of the year. Quarantine permitting, a more than valid window would be that of the month of December, simultaneously with the launch of PlayStation 5, given that the title will be exclusive Sony at least until launch. The title is not expected instead on PS4, as Lee himself has confirmed that the work done through the new console is impossible to replicate elsewhere, so the experience would be heavily penalized as a whole.

In conclusion, this is all we know about Godfall, we will certainly discover something more already starting from the next few months, at least we hope, but in all probability the real meat on the game will be shown at the time of the official announcement of PlayStation 5. Sony seems determined to get off to a good start for the next generation, and we as gamers can't wait to enjoy future surprises.
