Up to now 2020 has sadly been characterized by a long series of events and nefarious elements and, among these, the most dramatic has certainly been the explosion of the pandemic caused by the virus. SARS-CoV-2 or, more commonly, coronavirus. The attempt to limit the spread of the contagion as much as possible has upset the plans of the videogame industry, which annually shows its products to the public during very important events such asE3, Tokyo Game Show, and the Gamescom. If the colossus E3 had to raise the white flag and definitively cancel the 2020 edition, other fairs such as Gamescom have had the time to adapt and reshape the event, carrying it no longer live but in live streaming. This new modality, speaking precisely of the German fair, would seem to have given the organizers the opportunity to find a good success in terms of participation, albeit in a reduced form compared to the presence of the public.
According to what was communicated by the German Games Industry Association, the fair has provided a strong signal in these difficult times thanks to the success achieved in this unprecedented way. Indeed, during the inaugural Opening Night: Live held last August 27, two million people they were connected simultaneously from all parts of the world. A figure which, although obviously due to the impossibility of participating in the event in a different way, has quadrupled the data of last year. Commenting on these data, the director Felix Falk stated that in the plans for 2021 there is the will to return to offering aphysical experience. For this reason it has been confirmed that next year's edition will take place in hybrid form, or in part a Colonia and partly online, by 25 29 to August. At this point, we just have to ask ourselves if this method will also be adopted by the other videogame fairs in the course of 2021.
